I want to do cambelt...what else should I cosinder doing?

Hi there,

I have 110,000 on the clock of my beautyTT.

Belt was changed 50,000 miles ago'... so I want to replace it now....

Since I'm going to pay for the labour to do the belt (wherever I take it to be done)... what else do you suggest me to change or test at the same time?...

any help appreciated

thanks

Part of the 60K service when the cam belt is due is peplacement of the water pump and you may as well do the thermostat at the same time. I think plugs are due also.

The aircon, power steering and fan belts will all come off so may be worth changing.

I just recieved my 60k maintanance kit from Courtesy Nissan in the states yesterday - I have to say I am WELL impressed with the quality of service from these people - well they aren't british so that's maybe why biggrin.gif

I just ordered the full 60k kit which includes cam belt, auto tensioner, auxiliary belts, water pump, water pump gasket, thermostat, liquid gasket, camshaft seals, crankshaft seal, Cam timing control springs and o-rings.

As you can see this is a pretty comprehensive kit and the full cost was £260 including shipping - now just waiting for the import duty and tax to be applied so will fill you in on the final kit.

It took from ordering last thursday afternoon until yesterday morning to complete the full process of sale and shipping which IMO is VERY impressive wink.gif

Isn't the HKS GT Full Turbine Kit conversion due at 110k miles ;-)

Pete

I had everything from the 60K service kit, except the gaskets. Plus I did, OIL Filter, Fuel Filter, and plugs. Air filter was cleaned and reoiled.

The thermostat is definitely worth doing. this was faulty, but the car still warmed up reasonabley quickly I thought. Now it warms up much quicker, and a hestitaion problem I had has gone away.

Everything ordered came to £300 including delivery, and my mechanic took two days including a through check of everything else.

I now need new pads, I have snapped turbo to down pipe bolt, and the front bushes need doing.

The mechanic I use is excellent, and charged £300 including supply of 4litres of anti freeze. Thats about £20 an hour.

Leigh.

You can avoid import duty and tax by having the company write GIFT on the package and by not including the invoice in the box, get them to mail you the invoice a week later wink.giffor your records, lots of companies in Japan do this when exporting to single customers

ok guys thanks for you help...

I think I better get the kit from the states..

At my local Nissan Garage (co-op Nissan) the main mechanic, he was good, has left!!! So I do not tryst that place anymore...

One of the guys there asked me what "Cam timing control springs and o-rings" are? They didn't have a clue... he even checked on his Computer...

I mention "Rods" and he said waht are they for?

Then I was waiting for them to give me a call on the price of the 60K kit if I wanted to buy it from them to see if they could match Curtesy Nissan:

Full 60k kit

cam belt

auto tensioner

auxiliary belts

water pump

water pump gasket

thermostat

liquid gasket

camshaft seals

crankshaft seal

Cam timing control springs and o-rings

and they called me saying they could not give me a price unless I could give them my chassy (shassy..whatever the spelling) number! Without this number they could not find the right parts?... is this normal?... will I have to give my Shatsu!!! ( smile.gif) number to Curtesy Nissan?

thanks

ManicTT

Courtesy Nissan in the states ... do they have a web site?.. I'll check our link section

hello again,

I'm checking out the Courtesy Nissan site, But i can't see the 60k kit as an item to buy... do I need to call them or use one of their forms?... or do any of you have a link to this kit page?

also..

Rear Strut Tower Brace - 1990 to 1996 300ZX

Improves steering and handling by stiffening the rear strut towers.

Requires cutting into the interior body panels for installation.

where does this actually go...

and is any of you using fron/rear bars... any big differnece in handling?

thanks

Now I've fitted everything from my kit a couple of recommendations when you order. Leave out the oil seals and the bottom sproket plate from the order - this will bring the cost down just a little. I replaced the intake cam seals on mine cos they were *just* starting to look a bit wet - the drivers side was actually dribbling but thats sorted now. Leave out the bottom sprocket plate because getting the bottom sproket off is virtually impossible - hence no bottom main seal also wink.gif If you really want this doing then you'll probably need a new bottom sprocket since if the old one is stuck you need to cut it off.

One point when you make your order is to make sure they supply the correct power steering pump drive belt for the year - they sent me the one for '93 onwards (or whatever date the changeover was). The difference between the belts is the width so had to setle with using the old one on mine frown.gif Oh well.....

Hope this helps a little....

CheerZ,

Andy

AndyD, that bottom sproket was a BITCH to remove when I done mine - had to use loads of 'Plus Gas' to get it off, and lots of bad language of course. I think a really light coating of rust was holding it in place. Definitly wouldn't recommend changing it unless the oil seal is weaping. (Which it wasn't, but the big one on the fly wheel end was)
