Anyone done it, my mechanic has never done one on a zed and just asked me if its an easy job - I of course said yes :)

Whats involved though - is it a case of just jack up the car - undo wires to back of starter motor and undo a few bolts and it comes out?

Featured Replies

mine needs doing as well, so i'd also be interested, my mechanic knows hes doing it and said it looked straight forward enough..

how long would you say it takes to remove Yaseen?

how long would you say it takes to remove Yaseen?

for a mechanic 2-3 mins, took me 10 cos i dont have a ramp and had to keep asking mickey if what i was doing was right while he was busy under the bonnet lol

ohhhh hold on, there was one wire i didnt remove because didnt need to (starter was going back on) can't remember if removing that would be difficult or not

could do with the starter fixing on mine, sometimes it just makes an awful grinding noise and refuses to start, embarassing when you are holding up a queue at a petrol station because your fancy car wont start :/

jack up car support on axle stands remove live lead on battery, otherwise YOU will get a shock LOL

discconect plug from starter motor grey one IIRC whic if still there will be supported by a bracket remove 10mm

remove lower bolt 14 mm theres also a nut above that at the top of the starter, remove that! use a ratchet with short extension and a uj to make life easier, last thing you want to do is round it off!

now its ready to pull out from ringgear its much easier with exhaust off,but if you wiggle and manipulate it,it will come away from bellhousing, you can remove the heatshield on ther starter but you shouldnt need to 3x10mm bolts

let starter motor hand down, then remove main power lead from battery which is attached at the back 1x12mm nut

job done starter motor removed

HTH greg

sounds long winded but 10-15 job,not the exagerated 2mins :)

its common for the starter bolts to loosen over time and starter doesnt sit flush to bellhousing causing it to make that horrid noise, may be the starter but dont condemn it until you have checked that

if left for to long it may well damage the flywheel ringgear which is gearbox out obviously :(
