I noticed just over a week ago that the clutch bite point seemed to be a bit higher than it should be. Thought at first it was my imagination, but wasn't entirely sure. Next time I'll trust my instincts I think. Anyway, driving along this morning I noticed that if I was going at 70 or 80 in 4th or 5th and then booted it the revs would suddenly jump about 1000rpm, then drop back down and start steadily climbing again as the car accelerates. This was particularly obvious in 4th gear at 80mph (almost exactly 4000rpm). The revs jumped to around 5000rpm and then down to 4200 or so before steadily climbing.

So anyway, new clutch. The car is still quite driveable at the moment although obviously I want to get this sorted pretty quickly. So what's the recommendation on stock clutch replacement? Is it better/cheaper to get some sort of upgrade? Or should I just replace with the stock part? What do others recommend?

Thanks,

Bart

If you plan om using more boost or tuning the engine it's better to get a performance clutch over a standard as a standard clutch fries quickly with higher power.

I'd suggest getting a lightened flywheel regardless of whether you plan on upping the boost or not - makes a hell of a difference! :)

Thanks guys. I'm not really planning on any major modding... more than anything I know original parts can be very pricey so was wondering if an RPS clutch might be a better option. I'll probably give MJP a ring tomorrow. Is there anything I'd need to be aware of if I went down the flywheel replacement route as well? How big a job is it exactly if you have to replace the clutch anyway?

Cheers,

Bart

Bart thankfully a clutch/fly replacement is one of those jobs that is not technical on a Zed and pretty much any garage can do that for you, a Zed specialist might do it quicker though :) average cost is anywhere from 150-200 quid for labour. All straight forward to do including swapping the fly, the RPS Sport is your best option if not going crazy in the horse power tables, feels likle stock but will still take a fair bit more power than stock.

Full details of these if you want them omn my website, just click the banner below :)

Cheers mate, beat you to it and had a look last night. Still weighing up the flywheel issue, but yeah, RPS seems to be the way to go. Think I'll avoid the 6-puck job though. Seen the other thread. :)
