PK usually knows whats available at the moment. But basically mate it always comes down to the price bracket you want to pay:

£1500-£2000 - Top specs, you'll pay a premium but get the best but it'll only be a week before its tomorrows mid-price.

£1000-£1500 - Last weeks top spec, but now down to a reasonable price. Still going to last a year or two and will play all the latest games if you choose wisely

£800-£1000 - Still pretty good quality but wont last so long before it starts to chug a bit. Probably wont be able to play the latest games unless you turn the graphics settings down.

The magic number is around a grand as you can get a laptop with good quality components (HDD,etc), and with plenty of power. You should get a good graphics card and plenty of memory, etc, etc at this point.

Are you talking about our conversation or have you found another good offer?

Pk recommended a place for my missus to get a laptop at that price. Can't fault it. It does what it says on the can, and she loves it. Slow as fook though and makes more noise than my Zed (and gets hotter) but thats what you get at that price. Certainly as good as or better than any other at that price.

my sister just bought an acer aspire 3003lm from ebuyer for 400 squid and its surprisingly decent for that cash, only comes with 256mb ram so i doubled that, not the best screen in the world but it does, hdd is a bit on the slow side too, and it has crappy battery life, but its all there and it looks nice. Depends what you want to do with it I suppose, all my sis does is browse the web on it so it does fine.

Ive had a quick skank through afew webbys mate and this is one of the best ive seen so far for the £500 area.

AMD 2800+ Processor - Decent CPU, Not the best

512 RAM DDR 333 - I had this Memory and found it quite fast, just depends on what your planning to do with it.

800 MHz HyperTransport - Im guessing that this is the FSB speed? correct me if im wrong. If so then this is a good FSB speed

60 GB Hard Drive - Decent size if you ask me, depends what your filling it with. (no comment)

128 mb x200 Gfx - Shame it takes this memory from the RAM :(

You also get CD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD-ROM. - Not the best of speeds with these but it does the job.

Or you can always go on ebay and check out what they have, You can get some cracking deals on desktops and laptops there.

Hope this gives you an idea of what spec your looking at for your price range mate.

Yeah ,same with my missus. She's doing a bit of website design at the moment and starting to notice the lack of power but it does the job and costs less than my tyres! and it'll last longer than my tyres too!!

Hi mate, what's up with it? I repair them for a living.

I bought an Acer today from Tesco for just under £500 (reduced).

It seems pretty good - wifi'ing from the couch right now!

I'm no expert though.
