My eldest daughter just tried to switch on her laptop, and it comes up wit NTLDR is missing.

Just done a search, and it may as well be written in chinese, anyone help??

Sounds like the disk may have died or become corrupt or disconnected. Or just possibly she has left a floppy/cd in it - unlikely though ...

That was lucky, I thought you got a different message about unbootable disk when you did that ...

Pmsl, I did that midway through the start of a very pressured deployment in Norway! Rebooted the server after installing some software and thought I'd killed it. Nearly had a heart attack till we spotted the floppy in the drive.

Still got the same fault though, wont boot up, someone said I need a windows disc to run a repair?

Tbh I've never seen a windows repair actually work. If I was nearby I could get an XP disc to you but I'm down in Kent now. I can send you one if you can't get one locally. Unfortunately it may be a symptom of something a bit more drastic as said such as knackered hard drive, etc.

its usually the hard drive tbh, what make and model laptop is it, some come with recovery cds rather than a standalone windows cd

Hehehe...I have done that several times in my career and I have been in IT over 10 years...lol
