OK. Gonna have a go at taking the engine out and rebuilding it/refitting it.

I know about the internal damage but what else should i be doing fixing/replacing while the engine is out?

Thanks in advance guys.

To be honest mate, i would change everything you can afford now.

Now she has to come out, take a bit longer, and change everything, so you know she is better than new.

Unorthodox Lightweight pulley from Smithy Bud.

not upgrading anything. just want to know what should be done as a matter of coman sence as the engine is out :duffer:

core plugs, all gaskets, new hoses, personally, i would recon turbos too.

definatley have a good look at loom , i dint change mine and wires were brittle from heat over the yerars , 15 yrs old after all , cost me in long run , as had to strip most of them out recently to replace, well my mechanic did , wish id done it whilst engine out, ,, engine loom off course , not whole car, ,

also consider

1. water bypass rear of engine under plenum,

2, change turbo oil seals whilst engine is out

3, rear main oils seal which i think you have to anyway once dropped engine out,

hth im sure others will add more, but the wire loom in engine =bay cost me in the long run. really wish i listened to karlos g, live and learn , ps only do if its bad,

yep those water hoses at the rear of the engine are a pita mine are leaking now and what a nightmare they are 2 change with the engine in,

im building an engine right now,

new bearings

oil pump

tensioner

rear engine oil seal

all gaskets

all hoses

tubs

injector seals

cam seals

ect ect!!

I personally would add new pistons to the list, if your checking for damage, you may need a set anyway, but a set of forged are not that more expensive and it means you shouldnt ever have to open her right up in the future

Exactly or at least replace the rings

Everything

Sure someone musta said that.

The thing is to work out your budget and then try to work from there, also build in some sort of contingency as when you pull the engine there is quite often something that you didn't plan on!

I'd check the oil pump for excessive wear, get the block & heads cleaned in an ultrasonic bath because the oilways can become clogged up. I stripped mine down after the previous owner told me that one of the headgaskets had gone. I found that one of the big-end journals was also badly worn, even the con-rod was oval but the rest were A1. If it's ever detted, there will almost certainly be piston and bore damage too. These are what I would call the fundamentals as most other items can be repaired afterwards but not necessarily with ease!

The best place to start is to pull the engine strip it down and see what has gone haywire, then at least you know, what you have to spend on and not!

I think this is the best plan, get it out and strip it down then i'l be asking for help. "whats this thing for?" :headvswal

Thanks again for the info guys!

Am also currently stripping down Engine for full rebuild, have fun and hope all goes well :)

if i could only remember which order they go back in!

;) was jesting - lots of photos, and lots of printouts from here, twinturbo.net and andyp's site etc have come in very handy!

Bin the enginge (flog what you can) and have a word with friday to order a nissan V8 and Gearbox addaptor. It will be cheeper than a rebuild, more reliable, more powerfull, have no lag and sound amazing.

Get 02's done and also the PCV's and connecting pipework.

Much easier with engine out.
