NZR: Mitsubishi L300 Express van - Oil pressure problem

Guys

My little van is having a problem. When driving the 'oil pressure' light is illuminated. There is no noticable difference in performance but I am just waiting for something to blow up or drop off.

Help guys. What could be the cause and/or consequencies of driving it in this state. And of course any possible solutions.

She's done a few KM!!!

Oil level if fine by the way.

...obvoiusly not enough oil pressure. Oil pump knackered? ...is it belt driven? is belt broken? ...but most likely worn big-end bearings with that number of Km's on the clock.

Good luck

Jack

Could be worn out or clogged pressure sender. If you arent getting bearing rattle or knock when you start from cold then the engine is prolly fine. Oil pressure sender usually works at a very low level like 10psi and if clogged up with sludge then it cant feel any pressure.

Thanks for the replies guys!.

She sounds no noiser than before (the oil pressure light has been illuminating). All though when I first start her up the light does not come on until a few minutes of driving. And when it does come on if I give her a few revs (say over about 3k) the light flickers and dims the higher I rev. But after a 5 mins of driving the light is on permantly.

Thanks again for your help!.

daft question time......... what colour is the warning light that illuminates?

Our works toyota has an orange light that illuminates when oil level is low. Red for low oil pressure i.e. on start up.

It's red bud. Oil level checked and is ok. I have been driving it with out any problems for a while now so I reckon it could be the sender at fault as suggested. Well that's what I am hoping anyway.

Surely it would have shown some problems by now if it was oil pressure?.

change the oil sounds like its breaking and down and becoming very thin when hot

Spot on Steve. Your a diamond!.

Although the oil was a fresh change not 3 months ago. Maybe a dodgey can?.
