boost jets, what are they and are they easy to fit. how much do they cost?

Featured Replies

Boost jets are small jets that restrict the airflow to the turbo actuator, allowing a higher boost pressure to be reached.

The smaller the bore of the jet, the more the increase in possible boost.

can these be fitted with stock turbos? are they expensive?

Yes they can. But wouldn't go smaller than 1.0mm Stock turbos and ICs shouldn't be taken above 15PSi AFAIK. This equates to having a max bore size of 1.0mm jets

(I think)

They are basically Mig weld tips. Hardware shops sell them a couple of quid, and many members have a stack of them to give away

You should ideally have your car chipped/ECU remap, to handle the extra fueling and timing alterations at higher boost.

does anyone know where the write up is showing how to install them

very easy to fit and will cost about Β£2 i think! just go to a DIY shop and get some welding tips... job done.. or i think danny at DTA does proper ones..

i would get a after marked boost gauge as well though so you can see what boost you are running.

is there boost jets fitted as standard? size?

i also need an aftermarket boost gauge. where are they mounted and will any type do? do i need a sender unit?

no mate, no jets as standard, go for 1.2mm first, they will be relatively 'safe' around 12psi but you MUST get a remap of the ecu first

where wil i get my ecu re-mapped then? is this expensive?

Yes there are restrictions further up the actuator pipes towards the actuator itself bore side approx 1.5mil

Β

just to make people aware you must before upping the boost in anyway your ECU must be socketed and an appropriate chip used ,A boost gauge must always be used in setting up the boost as different boost jets can give very different results for example I have seen 1mil boost jets give 17psi likewise I have seen 0.6 jets only give 12psi.

If your not sure of how to do it there are a few write ups floating around failing that get one of the traders to do it for you
