In May when I'm 21 I can finally afford the insurance to own a Z (twin turbo).

As the manual transmission versions appear to be a lot more expensive to buy, it seems I will buy an automatic. So the question looms, how do you make the car 'dump'?

Being a manual, in my current car I just come off the gas quite suddenly after building boost 5psi or more and engage the clutch ready to change gear and the dump valve goes off.

So how do you guys do it in your automatic twin turbo 300?

take your foot off the go pedal in boost

In auto you would lift your foot of the gas. Dump valves wont go of on gear changes however.

From what I can make out if I keep my foot nailed to the floor it holds boost thru changes.

Yep , only dumps when you take your foot off the gas .

thats part of the reason the auto is listed as quicker to 60 i think..? keeps the turbos spooled up and doesnt dump boost between gears...

Auto is Slower to 60mph, but 0.1secs quicker to 100

Thanks for your help guys.

Never driven an auto before, so its gonna be a completely different driving experience; that and I have always driven a front wheel drive car, oh, and I've been driving a diseasel for 2 years, so getting into a 300bhp car maybe not such a good idea for learning to drive automatic in,but uh well you only live twice, and god damn its the sexiest road car I've ever seen :hyper:

buy an auto and buy new boxes each year for life :D

buy an auto and buy new boxes each year for life :D

Had mine for over 6 years and never given me any trouble.

Chris - thats a silly thing to say mate. That might really put someone off when it really isn't the case. It's like saying buy a manual and buy a clutch every 6 months each year for life.

You watch - mine will blow up now :(

It's not silly at all it's my opinion. I' went through 3 auto boxes in less than 6 months, i know other people on their fifth in 18 months, the stock auto box is weak, that's not an opinion, it's a FACT.

I done almost 10k miles in my manual last year, no problems at all, again FACT :D
