Hi,

I totally new to buying a 300zx, i've never owned a turbo car before.

I have just brought a 300zx, should be picking it up Tuesday can't wait.

Can anyone give me any advise on what to look for before I deside to part with the cash.

Any information would be much appriciated.

Thanks

I'm getting it from Birming Import Centre, I was going to pick it up last Thursday, but it wasn't registered, should be by Tuesday though

Hope you find a nice one bud and if you buy it BE CAREFUL with your right foot until you get used to it   The power can catch you out on corners

Welcome to the forum :hyper:

I take it you haven't driven it then?-and welcome! :D

I have taken it for a short test drive, damm its quick

Try and take it for a longer test drive, get it up to 80 ish and check for vibrations.

Also after switching it off take 5 or 10 mins to look round it, make sure theres no leaks.

If its an auto and only just imported make sure you get an autobox cooler fitted, if not the box will cook in weeks.

If its not had a documented cambelt change you can use this as a bargaining tool, as you will need to have one done and they cost around 400 quid.

Im not familiar with Birmingham import centre, I have heard of one or two dodgy dealers in Birmingham but they change their name quite often so quite hard to keep track of.

This might sound a bit cryptic, but as a general rule dont buy from Birmingham dealers if they have a gravel drive.

A search on gravel drive should tell you why.

Good luck bud.

Hi thanks for the advise.

IK may be being a bit naive but how will I know if its got a auto box, I don't want to be driving back from Birmingham and have probles.

Thanks

Is it an automatic or a manual

Ie do you change the gears with a stick or does it do it itself.

Erh? You've bought the car and driven it but don't know whether it's manual or auto?

Please don't tell me that's the little industrial unit in the centre of B'ham near where the Ice Rink was and the multistorey carpark on your right as you come out of the unit?

If you know the guy then no offence meant but I went there and he tried to sell me everyone of his cars even though I was after a Z. He even said on one Z, I'll knock off some money and fix the gearbox! Stay well clear, just my gut feeling.

its a small garage with out 20 various makes of cars for sale. It has a small pay and display carpark next to it.

Does it soulnd familia.

I hope by reading these replies I wont be put off coz i've been waiting a long time to get a black 300zx TT with leather, and a body kit already fitted.

When I went to check it out it looked immacuate.

don't be put off, what the guys are saying is what you need to hear. If the car looks immaculate, but has some underlying problem you could easily miss, it will put you off z's for life. I'm sure there is a member here near you who could accompany you before you hand over the cash.

have a good read of the link you were given and don't be afraid to ask us more questions before you buy.

I bought my second Z from a dealer from kent. He wanted to sell me a different one from the one I wanted. It had a blown turbo. He told me this.

"Changing a turbo isn't a big job. Underneath the car for an hour or so. I've bought the turbo but havn't got around to it because i'm so busy" LOL!

welcome and hope everything works out. It will be the best motoring experience of your life :hyper:

I live in Reading so i'll be going up to Birmingham on Tuesday by train coz I just sold my MR2.

So if anyone lives near the area give me a shout.

Thanks all your comments are really helpful

It sounds like the place I've visited, if I was back up there I'd come and view with you. For all I know it's one of the ones I looked at 18 months ago! Just be very wary. The place I'm thinking of has a small pay and display directly in front of it, a multi storey to the right, to the front left should be a pub, which I believe is a gay bar, it's in a seedier part of town, sex cinema's down the road, fruit market nearby (no pun intended). I believe the area is called Digbeth. Get the postcode for me and I will check on a map, I'm from that area originally.

Incidentally how much is he after? I assume it's also in Autotrader? Post up a link if there is one and we can all give you first impressions advice. Not always reliable but worth listening to.

I cant remember the post code I think this is it B12 0UP Leopold Street not 100% though, I do know it is in Deritend.

I'ts not on Autotrader but they are selling a different one on Autotrader here's the link

Its the silver one priced at £3295, the one I looked at was a black one but much better looking than the one they are selling

Right, buy a banger for a while then got and speak to Lee at http://www.import-ance.co.uk

He's the chap who imported my Zed. He deals with very good quality cars. Whilst mine's got its niggles, it's generally a very good car in lovely condition.

The website's not been updated for a while, as you see, my Zed which I've owned for 6 months is still up there. But his contact details are there.
