Hi folks

Glad to make your acquaintance . Quick intro : over the years , and with other makes in between , I`ve had a 260Z ( crap choke ! ) , 280 ZX , and 300zx Turbo Z31 . But when the 300ZX TT arrived , I WANTED one , just as you all must have . Fast forward , for any readers still awake and even remotely interested , I got one four days ago . Bought it from a one-man garage ( which was very well equipped , not a slum ) . Anyway , to the point : I truly sensed this was an honourable young guy...well-spoken , helpful and flexible . He had bought the J-Reg TT Auto from a regular customer , who had done some work on the car himself...upgraded brakes , replaced under-bonnet connectors etc... . I asked about the cam-belt , and he had sourced and supplied the guy with the kit . Over two visits , viewing and doing the deal , he assured me as far as he could , that the previous owner was not the type to NOT fit the kit . Unfortunately he has moved to Spain , sooo how can I check , just to be safe , considering the possible implications however small the odds ?

By the way , great site , nice sense of people willing to help each other...but enough to induce acid-size paranoia seeing the POTENTIAL nightmares available to us all .

Sorry to be so brief !

LOL. Yes but i don't have a drive..................

I live at the YMCA........... :o

The trouble is that in order to be able to check the condition of the cambelt, you must do nearly all the same labour involved in replacing it.

Remove Rad, Rad hardpipes, aux belts, crank pulley, Cam covers. There are also other items due for replacement with the Cambelt to, as part of the 60k service.

It's one of those things you don't want to risk. If you can't find out when it was done for deffo, get it done for peace of mine!

Where about in London are you?

Vijay

My cambelt broke at christmas. I was doing aprox 50 mph and the engine lost power and then stopped. Is the engine knackered ? I've been told that there is probably no damage done to the valves by one person and told that it's luck of the draw by another person. Problem is there doesn't seem to be many experts in Ireland. My mate is a mechanic, should i let him have a go at repairing it or trailer it to Zedworld at an astronomical cost for ferries etc.

 Many thanks Neil (LOL ) , Legrath , Vijay ( Kensington , btw ) , Speedemon , and good luck , Richie .

Well , the mechanic/trader/gentleman/scholar has got back to me with a phone number for the previous owner : turns out he`s not quite moved yet . I have just spoken with him ; he and his brother are classic car enthusiasts ( dismembered Elans scattered around , that kinda thing ) , and I can rest assured that he has fitted the belt , as well as water pump , injector cables , plugs etc... He used semi-synthetic oil , hope that`s ok , lol .

So , a huge sigh of relief from me and my debit card !

Thanks again , Lads
