My beloved Zed is pulling to the nearside curb when braking. This means problems with the offside front disk. On inspection the pad is full of meat but it's not gripping the lower portion of the disk which appears rusty.

Is this a simple case of the pot's stuck. Is it possible to pump out the pot and clean it or do I need to get the caliper stripped?

It looks like the disc is a bit buggered and they're only 12 months old so I'm not over the moon.

Advice appreciated.

Can anyone give me an idication of an upgrade to something like AP Racing disks. Yes I know I'll have to change the wheels too but would appreciate a ball park figure.

(Steve.E) You may wish to ask him how he likes the conversion.

Brembo 4 pot R33 conversion. (Subject to availability) Around 600-00

I use the Brembo conversion and as anyone who has been out with me in my car will confirm they are very good indeed.

These are the better brake conversions for the Z however there are many other cheaper options.

I have AP 330 mm disks on standard calipers (remounted at wider radius). They weren't cheap (around £1300 fitted from memory) but the braking is awesome and I've never had any fade (using porterfield carbon/kevlar pads).

Can't make a comparison with 6 pots as I've never used them but I personally wouldn't upgrade the brakes any further as I can't see the need - although they look great !

...had the same problem with my 90 Jap import na. I'm not convinced about disk warpage through heavy braking. If you remove the pads and watch each piston move under pedal pressure you see them expand unevenly. I had terrible brake judder when I got the car which went after repeated cleaning of the pistons and treating the cleaned surfaces with hydraulic grease (real easy job). I still replaced the disks - although they looked brand new. For disks try JRT Automotive 01494792211. Jap made tt rotors at approx £60 each plus p+p - infact I've got some under my desk waiting to be returned as they dont fit the na.

good luck

Fixed, I got the mit mots at the garage to strip the brakes and copper grease the pistons. They saw no problem but it seems the strip and clean has sorted it. They tested the brakes at the MOT shop rolling road and all is well.

When they service my car I'm sure they all have a good laugh as they always give me the same bloody courtesy car. It's a 1.nothing Hyundai Amica Auto. I nearly crashed it last night as I flew round this corner like I usually do but forgot I was not in the ZED. Oooh that was a tricky moment as I opposite locked the Amica round the bend.

Does that get the prize for worse courtesy car?
