Featured Replies

Mines doing this at the mo i have a wet pass side foot well however im missing part of the panel at the bottom of the windscreen so when it rains i think the water might be dripping down and coming through the bulkhead???? Are you losing and water from the rad??

Dont know if its losing water. its been parked up for a while.

I searched the site but cant find a link to a pic that shows exactly where the 2 hoses behind the engine are, so i can bypass it for now...

does the heater work and do you get any steam coming into the car as it may not be the heater matrix, check if you are losing water from the rad?

and make sure that the panel at the bottom of the winscreen is ok as i used to have a golf like this many years ago where when ever it rained water got into the car due to the panel being damaged dont know if its the same on the z though but i can pray coz if its the heater matrix its not going to be fun. :headvswal

It smells like antifreeze :( . Yes car steams up...... :(

Then yes mate yours is heater matrix by the sounds of it, as for me im not sure as mine heater works nice no steam and and all i get is windows full of condensation in the morning as theres water in the car so im not sure if mine is heater matrix or not.????

water in the passenger foot well can be a block heater darainage pipe, loccated at the bottom of the heater motor, this pipe can get block and water comes in through the heater, just pull pipe off clean out and sorted.

90% of the water is in the driver footwell, but ill have a look and see. Anything that saves me pulling the dash out.

Where exactly am i looking for this drain pipe?

passenger side look under the dash and u will c the heater motor, ot the rear of the motor is a rubber pipe that goes through the bulkhead pull the pipe off if water comes out or loads of shit u could have a blockage.

All I can see is a silver steel crossmember thing, (number 40 stamped on it) - about 3/4 along it there is an oval hole, with a rubber pipe going through it, is it that one?

Is it draining into the passenger or driver's footwell? Heater matrix will usually flood the pass side IIRC.

Has it been parked outside? Could be a leak in the drain pipe from the targa. This pipe can be found behind the A pillar...

Its defo coolant, but most, if not all of it, is in the driver side. Im currently bypassing the matrix in the engine, then maybe at the weekend ill have a look. Could it be hoses going to the matrix itself, or the ones from the back of the engine leaking down and into the driver footwell??

One other thing, can i block off the engine pipes rather than looping them, as they are just a bypass feed???

Kersh, I have the same problem, begun yesterday. Steam coming from the passenger footwell, heater not working properly. I've ordered a new matrix from MJP, Mike gave me good advice on how to remove the dash and replace it.

Has to be done soon, can't see a thing out through the windows, and it's a kind of oily mist, as you said, smells like antifreeze.

Let me know how you get on,

Mick.

How much was it, delivered? Im going to attempt it with the dash in (mines an auto).

Not cheap. 170 sterling. Although saw a thread here last night about the primera matrix, costs about £50 and with some modification you can make it fit a 300. Do a search under heater matrix.

Interested to see how you get on as mines an auto too.
