Lightened pulley/flywheel and balancing

after doing a search re the crankshaft, iv found a few threads where people have expressed concerns of lightened pulleys and flywheels affecting the resonance of the crank.

this did seem to be a small possibility.

I have a set of unorthodox pulleys and a fidanza flywheel to go on - could someone explain whether a balanced crank will be a benefit in this situation?

just trying to work out if this is worth doing or if im just overcomplicating things!

balancing the crank is always a good idea, but wont help in this situation. what the pully does is help damp out the shock of the firing pulses.

not worth worrying about IMO & theres been no documented evidence of it causing problems on a Z32

thanks for that - i must have been trying to think too hard - ouch!

i take it balancing the crank is good just due to gneral wear and tear then?

will any good machine shop do it?

lightening the crank assembly will increase power & allow the engine to rev more freely in the same way as fitting lighter pulleys & f/wheel.

balancing improves longetivity of the engine & allows the engine to rev higher more safely

My rebuilt S13 engine has a fully balanced bottom end, crank pulley through to clutch, it's supposed to well worth the money as part of a rebuild.

Removing the crank just to balance it, when there's nothing wrong, probably isn't worth the hassle though tbh, the engine obviously has to come out. You will get benefit from doing the flywheel and pulley.

cheers paul!

will prob get it done - want to at least check it cos not sure what damage was done when the heads warped.

if the engine is out, then get it done, but not need when just adding these individually.
