Cars do lose BHP as the engine wears out....

.....so if it has been looked after all its life with regular oil changes and never thrashed each and every day, then there's no reason why a 70k miler should have much less BHP than it did from the factory when new.

Each and every car is different - and regarding the "Top Gear" supercars, they were all bargain buys. Tremendously underpriced examples of rubbish near the end of their useful lives. Buy a top priced, nurtured example and the results would be different......(Except for the Italian cars - they are all crappily made  )

Richard :)

The M3 and Integrale were nice, well looked after examples and still 25% odd down on power.

If everything's fine, then a car shouldn't be down so much but there's a much greater chance that something somewhere is wrong and that takes the edge of the power.

Twin Turbo (Euro and Jap)

280 bhp - 300bhp

283 Ib/ft

0-60 : 5.5 secs

0-100 : 14.5 secs

1/4 Mile : 13.8 - 14.2 secs

Top speed : 170 mph + (Uk restricted to 155mph and Jap to 112mph)

Although, Car and Driver in 1992 got the following figures from a Manual SWB TT :

0-60 mph: 5.0 sec.

0-100: 13.1 sec.

Quarter Mile Time: 13.7 sec.

I reckon you must have that quote on your desktop Dave! How many times has it come out? I love the bit that casually says 'Although, Car and Driver got the following......'.

actually a good clutch does make a difference, as you will find out when you start to up the power on your standard clutch lol

i always thought that engines wernt run in untill theyve done around 50.000 plus these days, then again the zed is 15yrs old, so things were different then,,
