Cutting a long story short here's the deal:

Picked car up last weekend and i've done over 400miles on it since. No problems at all.

Today taking the car at the dyno i left it engine off for 15 minutes then when it was started back up blue smoke came from the right hand side exhaust and lasted about a minute or so and then cleared up. Checked my oil level etc all is ok so i decided to dyno it, done so no probs, no smoke.

Anyway later i parked up for about an hour then came back and same again smoke at start up for about a minute or so then cleared up..

It doesn't smoke at all after that even at full boost or at idle or if i shut the engine off for a few minutes and come back it wont smoke.. i have to leave it about 10 or 15 minutes before the smoke will appear.

Although tonight the problem didn't seem to be there, any ideas folks? I've done a search but not found anything that matches mt problem exactly.

thanks in advance,

Kev.

pcv's?

turbo seal maybe ?

deffo sounds like pcv's do a search bud quite a common prob which simulate turbo failure.

worth a try otherwise you are looking at a bit of a bill.

Valve stem oil seals, turbo seal but hopefully PCV valves?

cheers guys.. it's only just happened quite instantly then went away again.. it seems the more i leave the car sitting the more it'll smoke when i start it up.

had a look under the bay and i can see oily residue on the intake pipe on the turbo at the side it was smoking from. Other side looks bone dry but i'll have to whip them off to check for sure.

Going by what i've read and like yous say it could just be PCV valves/hoses. Can i get the kit (valves and 5 hoses) from Nissan?

Yeah, but you'll not have much change from £150 I don't think.

Look in the trader's section for MJP.

normally when first started up or at idle points to valve stems, just keep an eye on it,i doubt pcvs but worth a swap,as there not as expensive as pulling the engine :D

checked the PCV's they seem to be "sucking" ok at idle so i presume they'll be ok unless they're stuck in that position. The side at which it was smoking seems to be oily, well the pipe going to it is and there's smoke lingering in the pipe after it's been idling.

Any thoughts?

I was gonna say valve stem seals but already mentioned above.

if it does it after the car has sat for 10-15 min.. usually means those are on the way out.. only plastic and do tend to crack and let small amount of oil through...

good luck.. nothing major if it is these.

When was the last oil change?? Somtimes it can just be somthing simple like that. It happend to me. One oil change later and all ok!!

just to add to what jonce said....... if you put too thin oil it then it can bypass the seals anyway and smoke....

all i know is the last owner put Mobil 1 in it, the viscosity (spelling) i couldn't tell you. What do yous recommend oil wise.. i can try thicker stuff and that'll tell me if it's the valve stem seals or not?
