Wierd Problem

Hello,

Ive got a wierd problem with my steering / wheel , if im driving below 60mph the steering wheel is straight and all is fine, but as soon as i go above 60 the steering wheel moves to the right, like my trackings out. the car still drives in a straight line but the steering wheel is off centre.

My first thought was my HICAS system as my light comes on, so i disabled it by removing the Multiblock and putting a connector in there.

I still have the problem its getting a bit annoying now.

What should my next course of action be??

Thanks

Jamie :D

the hicas light comes on because your steering wheel is off centre. So it's not the cause, just a sideaffect.

No idea why it's happening though!

I think that you've got to be looking to the back wheels for the solution - rear steering geometry - or whatever holds everything in place. Could be rear curb damage?

If you've no luck finding the cause DIY, I'd recommend a crash repair specialist with a 4 wheel alignment jig - they'll soon tell you whats wrong.

Good luck

possible wear in a HICAS arm inner or outer arms that moves further as more power is going on.

If you are having to steer to the right to stay straight it suggests that the wear is most on the LHS rear HICAS arm outer or inner link. If this is true you will prolly find the inside edges of your rear tyres also disappearing with too much toe in under power and the usual excess rear negative camber these cars have once the rear bushes sag a bit.

As a related aside to this, I just self fitted an aftermarket steering wheel. After about 20 to 30 miles of travel the HICAS light comes on. Sometimes it goes off again. It did not do this before I fitted the wheel. Is it possible the steering wheel is not quite straight? It does appear to be straight????

sounds like the steering wheel isnt set central also try topping up the pwr steering fluid as if it gets low it will turn off your Hicas HTH
