Hello,

never had a 300zx so is there a few things i should look for particularly.

I have a choice of three :

1990 300zx import 31K mileage TT - auto - 3700£

1991 300zx import 62K mileage TT - auto - 2700£

1992 300zx import 55K mileage TT - auto - 3200£

My gut feeling would be to pay the extra and get the older one with less mileage, but i have read that the 1990 were prone to a few more faults than the later models.

I have not seen any of thses yet as i am flying from Ireland to purchase one on Thu 12 Jan. So the usual checks you would do on any car applies, I am looking for specifics if that is possible. Maybe stuff that should be looked at in alot more detail.

I look forward to your responses - thanks in advance.

Hi

Theres a buyers guide on here somewhere, do a search and good luck.

M ;)

I would say condition (when you go to view them) would be more important than age or mileage....however its worth noting that at 60k the 300zx is due a large service (including cambelt).

Typical cost for this service is £400-£500 from a Specialist.

Also keep a very keen eye out for clocking, as just about every Z from Japan has a 'genuine' 50-60K on the clock.

cheers for that - i will let you know how i get on - the buyers guide will be well useful.

find a manual transmission if you can, alot of autos are failing at the moment and as said view all of them and choose the best one, dont rush its easy to get your heart set on a nice looking car and loosing out with big repair bills, idealy take someone who has a good knowledge of the 300

good luck

Manual is the better buy - far more rewarding than auto. UK car with good service history. Perhaps there's a Zed club member that you can buy from?

If you do go for an import, look for the classification and warranty.

General car buying advice applies even more so. Never meet a seller in Pub car park; visit the seller's home - if that's not cared for, forget the car; shut lines; paint overspray etc.

Buy one from one of the members here. The cars for sale here have been cared for by enthusiasts who have spent money to keep the cars in tip top condition.

The best way to understand this is to go to a local 300zx.co.uk meet and look at the quality of club members cars. Then go to the importer and look at the crap cars he's trying to sell you. They are project cars in comparison to most of the cars owned by members here.

Unfortunately for the members selling car at the moment the prices are dictated by the majority of rubbish 300's that are out there.

You'll hear a lot abot Jap cars are in better nick than UK cars, but personally I think thats a load of rubbish. There was only 1500 UK cars ever sold between 1989 to 1994, most of which have ended up totaled and broken. There are now over 7000ish Zeds in the UK and 2 out of every 3 I see are total pants. So believe me Jap can be crap and Uk can be OK you just have to keep looking and get the best you can.
