how long does a driving ban stay on your licence for? i know points come off after 3 years but you have to wait an extra year to have them removed from your licence.

Featured Replies

Do beleive that's correct, 4 years in total, and you have to pay for the new 'Clean' licence (unless you move house like I did :D )

is that the same for driving bans tho?

Whoops, sorry, didn't read the question properly :nelson: Although I'd have thought somthing like the same would apply. I supose it depends on what the conditions of the ban were when imposed.

I believe the ban stays on for as long as any other conviction, however a drink driving penalty remains on your licence for 10 years.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

im pleased about that then.

is that 5 years from when they end or from when they start?

 that would be from when the ban starts and do declare if you get insurance as they wont pay up if you keep :x:

I'm not sure about anything else but i know for a fact that drink driving ban stays on license for 11 years :duffer: :nelson:  oops

Usually, you only have to declare bans and points to the insurance company for 5 years, no matter what for.

old zed you are defo wrong there mate if its drink related its declare for ten years mate :headvswal

.........It says 11 on here. I thought i was ten FFS. Im sure when i got done in 95 for DR10 that it was 10 years meaning mine would have finished by now :headvswal :headvswal

It is only valid for 10 years, but comes off in 11 - like speeding, convictions over 3 years old can be ignored for "totting up" but you can't get rid of them until 4 years have passed.

Penalty points are removed 4 years from date of offence. They dont become there for the sake of it after 3 years, if you have 9 points on your licence that a 3 and a half years old and you get another 3 you will be banned under totting up.

Bans excluding drink drive are 4 years from date of offence.

Drink drive bans stay on your licence for 11 years, also if you are done for drink driving twice or more in the 11 years, the dvla can remove your licence from you indefinatly, until you can prove that your drink problem is under control.

Death by dangerous driving is another 11 year one.

Dangerous driving alone is 4 years though.

Most insures will ask for convictions or bans in the past 3 years, but some will want 5 years, thats upto the insurance company.

I got a 2 and a half year ban for DD40 when i was 18, when i got my licence back i only had to keep it on my licence for 18 months.
