series 1/2 PTU?

Basically what does the PTU do and what is the difference between 1 and 2. Lots of posts and searching for it hasnt really made it clear why upgrading was an advantage..? Dumb q? im sure thanks guys

    Power Transistor Unit - It amplifies the Signals from the ECU and sends to each coilpack.

     

    Series 1 is unreliable. There was a huge recall on them from Nissan in the U.S, and replaced with the reliable Series 2 version. Unfortunatly the UK never got this recall.
