I was on my way to a work's nosh-up last night at about 8pm. pulled onto a dual carriageway from a roundabout and gradually accellerated in the outside lane past another car when i see a flash from the other side of the road. look up and see a yellow mobile CCTV van parked up, side-on to me. think "sht" to myself and check my speed - was no more than 44 in a 40. the area around us was very dark as the streetlights are quite spread out (for the leicester posse this is from the "Grange" roundabout in Oadby on the way to Great Glen. thinking about it: a) the flash wasn't a gatso-sort of flash, like a floodlight, it was more like a polaroid flash going off. and b) the van was side-on to me, not rear-end-on where the bleeders like to watch you.

my worry (and question) is: have i been snapped or had they pulled up for a donut and coffee and the flash was something else?

if it was a van speed detector, 1) it wouldnt flash coz it has no measuring markers to flash at, to measure you.

2) if it was side on like you said and on the other side of the road you deffo have nothing to worry about mate.

3) ur seeing shit dave lol, nah it could just have been a car way bac behind you or sumthing.

I am sure you will know for definate in two weeks.

i think you find its upto 3 months they can send it to you. not 100% i will speak to one of my traffic cop mates.

This van is run out of beaumont leys leicester and is the new Next gen police spy vans.

It has a mast witch it can see over 40ft with and has the same camera lay out as the police helicopter. The flash came from it taking a picture of your car. Because it use's the rolling video system to work out your speed. I know this because a guy across the road from me got done by it last year.

law states, they have 14 days within to issue you with an NIP notice of intent to prosecute

They have 14 days once they know WHO has committed an offence, but I think they have 6 months to ask the registered keeper who the driver was. Once they know that the 14 days kicks in.

Not quite - they know who the registered keeper is and have 14 days to issue the NIP to the registered keeper. The registered keeper must then inform the police who the driver was or lodge their appeal.

Providing the NIP is issued to the last registered keeper within 14 days then it can proceed to someone being penalised.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just spoke to a friend who's a traffic police sergeant. He confirmed what Richard says above. NIP has to be posted within 14 days (not received within 14 days). Sent to the registered keeper. You learn something every day!
