Mother to re-trim door cards!!!!!!

Ok, so after seeing Legrath's interior last week, I've kinda decided to buy the same kit, although won't be until it's had a trip to SouthWestZed for some TLC and a few bits of paintwork.

Now, the door cards I want to look like they've been properly made for the card rather than stretched over.

My old dear has made wedding dresses and loads of other garments and is quite skilled in needlecraft on the whole as she's retrimmed her own furniture, does fantastic crochet too.

So, I've asked her to do my door cards. She's thinking about it, but that's only because she doesn't know how good she is (ie, she thought she didn't do well in her university degree....and got a 1st).

Anyway, I am going to get the door card panels made in about 5 or 6 different sections, all double stitched with black thread. So it should look as leather intended rather than stretched leather which can sometimes look like vynil. Will continue the theme across the rest of the interior panel work.

I'm hoping it's going to work, it's going to cost me very little and as far as needlework is concerned, this is a walk in the park for her.

Has anyone else got double stitched and paneled door cards/under dash and consol sections? Interested to see what people have done.

tbh si because of the shape of some of the panels i.e door cards, rear quaters and console fronts streaching is the only way it's goona fit snug due to the shapes involved

mine was a right fooker to do and i used vinyl

That's because you stretched it! LOL. Right in the corners where the angles are, the material just wont stretch. Best off making up precut sections.

if your gonna have leather fitted to any shape curved etc, the best way to get a fit is to hire a steamer, the leather will fit no problem then.

if you use an epoxy glue contact adhesive, thin it a little with thinners you have a better time for movement, also it will not be effected withthe steamer, it will still set fine.

for interior trimming a steamer is your best friend, theres no shape the leather wont goto with that

you can use a garment steamer,

no not powerful enough, also you need the tools that it comes with.
