Had what I believe to be PTU Failure symtons the other day. Went to remove PTU and its connector pins broke inside the connector (the larger connector with 7 pins). Got a new connector and harness and rewired it back together and connected another PTU.

But now it only running on 5 cylinders. Cylinder 1 is the culprit.

So far :

a) Changed PTU (Unless this is the problem..it was fine on other car b4 removed)

b) Changed Coilpack

c) Changed Spark Plug

d) Getting 12v with ignition on from coilpack connector

But Im still not getting a spark ! (Coilpack and Plug removed and engine turned over to test for spark)

if the coil pack and spark plug are fine it can only be the PTU or harness to it try connecting one end and checking your are getting a feed through the PTU itself out of the other side on all 6 pins if that makes sense if not ring me and I will explain

Ryan and greg, I love you guys :D:D:bow:

I could feel that there was a lot of loving between you two today :p

:D I bloody hope you could feel it, me and greg have been 'working out' and taking those pills especially for you!

Just to jump in here - anyone heard of a series 2 PTU failing? I was lead to believe they never do/did? I am on 5 at the mo and not plug or coilpack. Its more likely to be the wiring to PTU I guess? Haven't had a proper nosey at it yet other than quick first checks to determine fuel or spark prob and changing over coilpack.

James if you want to pop over bud, I have a new series two you can swap over and test if you want :)

yes series 2 PTU's can and do fail but usually its to do with the earthing of the harness as opposed to them becoming faulty and unlike the series ones they usually fail completely

Nice one Mark - to the workshop or your home?

Sorry to change the course of the thread, comer over to Putney James :)
