Hi Guys,

I am a new member, MashFace300zx. My name is Marc.

Due to the fact that I use a van all week for my business, and have access to my wifes frugal ford KA I have decided that I would like to get myself a little plaything, a 300zx TT. To be honest, I wont be using it during the week as I have my work van, and for most day to day things we use the wife's KA, but i like the idea of getting the 300 zed out on a weekend for a blat

I have been looking at 300zx turbos now for near on a year, and i have found a suitable candidate, i am yet to decide what the seller wants to do as he has lost interest in it.

Its a manual JAP SPEC SWB 300zxTT in silver that needs some TLC. The owner tells me it has had a rigid rear drive axle fitted (no idea what that means) so it can cope with over 1000BHP. At the moment he claims it's putting out 400BHP at the wheels, although it has not been dynoed. However it hits 60 in just over 4 seconds so it must be somewhere near that figure. It has been extesivly lowered, lightend and strut braced with no silly bodykits (standard looking). Some of the interior at the back has been stripped out due to the huge strut braces in the back (quite impressive sight), its a pretty mean machine  .

However, it needs the folowing.

A real good wash, i mean really, really, really good. It has years of green grime built up on the bodywork and seals, its been sitting in the driveway for a year or so, under huge trees. :o I have checked the paintwork underneath and it's showroom perfect. NO Sctraches at all, i mean it has not been washed for years, and not seen a carwash either, so if the dirt is removed gently the paintwork will look pucker.

New alloy wheels, they look dead and tired. The are split rimmed ones, and the nuts on the rimms are rusted, awful. :headvswal

And has the following problems

Slipping cluch, however the he said that he got his mech to look at it and the clutch and assembally is fine. He thinks that its a slipping belt somewhere (lol, you can tell he dont know much about cars) i think its more of a case of an incrorrectly adjusted clutch pedal, or leaking master cylinder or something.

Rear spoiler paintwork is shot to bits, needs replacement or respray.

Other than that, the car still drives and starts fine, sounds awsome, very very loud due to the huge 4 inch stainless exausts.

You might be wondering why i am considering buying this.... well.... dog at the moment.

He has lost interest in it, they are moving soon he has to get rid of it and i am hoping that he wont get round to fixing all these things, i want to make an offer he cant refuse and take it off his hands so i can do it up.

Could be, all depends on price and if you have the money to sort all the little problems that its bound to have after sitting so long.

tbh as long as you have money in the bank for possible repairs eg turbos ect go for it. but make sure you give the engine a major service before thrashing it (possibly 60k service !! oil change filters ect as belts may have become brittle). get it to a z specialist eg z tech or z centre to have it looked over to make sure there is no rot in it (as it has been stood for so long)

all the best

good wash and new clutch and wheels doesn't seem too bad, depending on price. And swb tt's are worth slightly more, don't think you mentioned the year?

And as said, take it to one of the z specialists first.

Mate for what Zeds are going for now why not get one in better condition. Even the best Zeds are going for silly money. Look around before you buy your first Zed, you wont regret the time spent.

If the clutch is slipping...

how does it do 4 second 0-60's?

You're not just taking the seller's word for that are you?

If the car has not MOVED for a year or years, I wouldn't be offering a lot.

As said above - there are a few out there at silly money, looked after and will offer a better investment.

They are expensive to sort if you don't know about cars.

Even if you DO know about cars, they offer a challenge on various occasions.

The one in the pic below had been sitting laid up for 3 years and cost me £500 but needed both rear sills welding and had no indicated oil pressure which I found out later was a comon faulty gauge issue.

too right ;)

"he claims it's putting out 400BHP at the wheels, although it has not been dynoed." - so how does he know?! :p thats gonna be 460+ at the fly and would have required £000's spent to get to that level of tune.

be very wary of people claiming Z's as 350bhp/400bhp/500bhp as more often than not its a load of tripe. we've shot loads of ebay Zs down in this manner. ask him for a list of modifications and then post up here for our perusal. ;)

but anyway nice choice of car mate and hope you find a corker :D
