Hi, im going to change my ecu chip, ecu is socketed so is it just a case of pulling old one out and pushing new one in using a insertion/extraction clipper or is it more complicated, do i need to use a earth strap? thanx

Featured Replies

Yes, it is that simple and you should definitely use an earth strap. Make sure you get the chip round the right way !

sorry to sound dumb fellas but where do i attach the earth too is it from the ecu case to batt neg??

not sure dude, thats what i needed to know lets hope someone replys with answer.

Earth yourself

Yep just clench one end in your teeth and attach the other to the nearest steel railing or post.

Earth and battery negative are not the same thing. You should connect the earth strap from your wrist to something like a metal radiator pipe, tap, or even the earth on a mains socket - many earthing strap kits will have a plug that fits in a mains socket. Latest studies show you need to have both feet in a bucket of ice cold water and hum the National Anthem to be earthed properly.
