Sensors

Had my car tuned today as a fault has been picked up with rich mixture - not really car technical but something should be 0.1 or 0.3 and it is 4.1 (something like that!) Anyway the bloke rekons it might be the 'lambert sensor(s)'....

Gonna have it rechecked to find out for sure on Friday but any ideas on how much one is and where is cheapest place (he thinks it could be 130 +)?

Cheers guys

Robb

It's Lambda sensor or sometimes called O2 sensor.

You can do an ECU diagnostic check on this by going into mode 2. There are links in twinturbo.net for how to do this or there may be some here. I'm afraid I can't actually remember although it's one of those things that you can do once you've got a car to do it on !

However, the test CAN fail for reasons other than lambda sensor.

I have a feeling someone posted on here recently saying that they had some they'd bought and not needed. One of the Andy's ?

It was me who had the spare O2 sensors.. unfortunately they've both been sold now to Shaun..

They are about $60 each from Courtesy Nissan, so that's not really too bad at all.. Shipping would be $30-$40 I'd imagine.

Not too hard to do yourself if you have the right tool (basically two 9" 1/2" drive extensions, a 1/2" drive UJ, 1/2" to 3/8" reducer, and the O2 socket from SnapOn)

You might need thin arms though to get your hand down there to extract the old and refit the new (although if I managed it.. anyone can! biggrin.gif)

BTW if your test is that far out, and at idle, then I'd be almost certain it's *not* your lambda sensors, I don't think they are used at idle, anyone confirm? (The O2 sensor test is run at 2000rpm).. If that was fast idle however, then they will have been active (and the ECU in closed loop mode) for sure.

Like Dave says, a large vacuum or boost leak can cause rich running on one side of the engine very easily, so rich that the O2's cant correct it in closed loop mode, and will show up as a permenant rich condition on the O2 test, making it *look* like your O2's are screwed..

cheers for info - when it's idle the needle jumps between 0 and 1 for a while...

Will have to pay for proper test to find exact problem

I noticed that Halfords had universal O2 senors with various adapter wire connectors for about £30 each - dont suppose theyd be universal to a Z?

Hi Guys,

just done my O2 lamblabadababdabda sensor passenger side bought an o2 socket and found you had remove the heater pipes and air con pipes before it would fit. I found a crows foot socket fitted it perfectly without removing the pipes and it only cost a fiver.

Hope it helps

I would suggest that if your Zed can detect the kind of cigarette you are smoking then those Japanese are even cleverer than we first thought LMAO

I wonder if American Zeds come with a 'Marlboro sensor'? hehe
