Hi all,

I'm debating having the windows tinted. How easy is it to do it yourself?

I'm thinking of dark smoke on the rear window & then light smoke on the side.

I found a company that do kits for a decent price so just wondered how hard it would be..

piss easy mate! i did it with my 200 first time with no problems, a couple of tiny bubbles on the first window but by the time u get going it should be fine just remember, clean the glass like youve never cleaned it before, choose somewhere completly out the wind (i learnt this the hard way!) and keep all surfaces soaking wet when doing it, thatll make more sense when your doing it but dont be shy with the water or itll stick too easily. long as u got a little bit of patience you should b fine, let us all know how u got on. j

oh and just remember, dont expect to be able to see out of them reversing at nite! coz u wont see **** all! (another thing i learnt the hard way!) and check the laws reference how dark u can have the sides, (if u mean drivers windows) they can b arsy about it, although youd have to be having a shit day to get pulled for it. and dont wind the window down shortly after youve done it! christ im a ****ing muppet sometimes.........

ive had nightmares doing one of my old cars, bubbles a plenty. think its just a case of patience though. mine were done in japan and whoever did it did a top job.

my tints are very dark even on the side windows and it is quite hard to see at night although i dont think there as dark as limo black.

but ive not been pulled yet :nelson: and been at the side of plenty of coppers.

i can get a pukka job done for you for £200 bud.

done at my workshop in Canterbury :)

A little bit off topic but what is the easiest way to remove the tint as I want to have mine redone as after seven years and its getting a bit tacky?

the tints *should* just peel off, then some tar & glue remover to get the adhesive off

If you have patience, give it a try, but don't expect a top job.

Advise not to tint the front drop glass windows, its highly likely to make them illegal. Some of the Scottish police forces are now handing out fixed penalty tickets as well as making you take the tints off. Could also cause problems with any insurance claims because the car wont meet with C&U regulations.

taking off the tint use a hair dryer to heat it as u go, as for fitting it i,'ve done loads now and i would say take the front windows out, because of the curve your need alot of time and again a hair dryer as the film doesn't like to bend.

It would be quite easy if you knbow how to get the windows in and out :D

Just done mine myself with some tint film off ebay..i got limo black and its a bit fiddly and i did manage to get it on with no airbubbles but my top edge trimming leaves alot to be desired..just use plenty of warm soapy water on the window and the film..I cleaned and wet the hatch of the car as a close and easy ' workbench' ..lay it on the hatch and peel back the clear soaking the film in water as u do it..if u dont it may stick together and u end up stuffing the film..water stops it doing this..its fiddly and i only did the front sides..the back hatch would be more difficult i would say as you may have to do a join..look give it a go..the film is only 10 pounds off ebay 20 inch by 90 inch..good luck..oh and make sure the film slides below the rubber seal on the bottom of the window..use tape to hold it back of the window

dunno how much the tinting kits cost, but in my opinion PAY FOR IT to be done by a pro.. theres nothing worse then a bad job (not saying you'd do one, but i know i would.. lol)

i have been quoted £100 for the 3 back windaz, which i WILL get done, and might get the doors done but not as dark..

i had the skyline done y the same lad and he did an amazing job..
