It's coming close to ordering my new turbos!

JWT 700bb or Greddy TD05's

Jim Wolf are ball bearing Greddy's i don't think are so wont they spool up faster also don't the JWT produce more hp?

Also do you have to buy Wastegates for the 700bb's???

The Greddy kit comes all in so if i was to choose the JWT's i would also get Speaciality Z manifolds and downpipes, possibly wastegates if needed.

What do you think the best option is???

jwt700's are GT28RS turbos with 0.80 AR turbine housings: very laggy on our engines...better alternative would be the Garrett GT28RS with 0.64 AR turbine housing.

The GT28RS turbos are hard to fit and require quite a few modifications, but Zeds that have the 0.64 AR versions fitted seem to break all the records lately.

(Greg Dupree's car from SpecialtyZ being a good example)

The TD05's have proven to work very well on Zeds (even on engines with stock internals) and are fairly plug and play.

There have been numerous reports of cracking Greddy manifolds (the ones that come with the TD05 kit), but apart from that not much that can go wrong with this turbo kit.

Even though the technology used in these turbos is somewhat ancient, the TD05's are still going strong against all their new ballbearing competitors.

Oh right, Sgp racing do a upgrade for this kit, TD05 18g or a TD06 20g would this be better over the TD05 16g

This set-up is cheaper over the JWT so i could get a intercooler or a fuel rail at the same time.

You have to get the idea of better out of your head :)

There are pay offs, generally speaking the bigger the turbo the more laggy, but more BHP!

I don't think the entire greddy set up is cheaper, than a pair of JWT 700's but let me know if you do find them cheaper? :)

Where are you planning on using the power? That should dictate what kind of turbos and supporting mods you go for.

If you like driving on backroads you want a setup with minimal lag & lots of torque - peak hp should not concern you, but for drag racing, the bigger the better! :D

I thought Greg's car was using plain JWT 700's with the 0.80AR? The first real dyno results I've seen with the 0.64 AR are from Dee Ridgeway (Slowninja on tt.net). Very impressive too

Sorry what i meant was they are cheaper by the time I've purchased down pipes, manfiolds and also wastegates to make a similar package.

I mainly use the car on bigger roads such as A roads, don't really like country roads.

This will make you laugh, my lump is pretty much standerd, but...... i've blown my turbo's and can't see the point in getting standerd or something slightly better i'd rather get the best i can so i can wind the boost down to what i should run on a stock engine until i can get a engine rebuilt aswell.

Makes sence to me.

Hi Jaffa why not try the same set up as me ? Ive gone for the GT28R turbos.

The only things you have to get are HKS uprated actuators,5 stud down pipes and new coustom oil feeds.

Good power for little money if you have the other bits to go with it (intercoolers,Injectors etc)

And if you dont boost to much good on stock internals.

The GT28RS turbos look a little extreme for stock internals for my likeing leading to a short engine life.Where as Garrett rate the 28Rs at somthing like a maximum of 630bph a pair which is ample for the VG30 DETT with about 16-18 psi hopefully giving about 450bhp.

So what im saying is dont go mad with masive turbos thinking you will get massive HP running stock every thing else without somthing going bang,

Ive looked long and hard into this before deciding on my set up.And i think for the money ive gone the right way.

Hope this helps

Steve.

I saw that the other day as i was looking at my options i'm looking for something with more power really, i've sent off some quote requests to Garrett distrubutors to see what they can offer.

has anyone heard of the new Garrett dual ball bearing range, does this mean even less lag???

Ball bearing turbo are not less laggy!

The point you will reach +ve boost on a thrust bearing turbo and ball bearing turbo are the same, the point at which you reach full boost will be different and will be fractionally quicker on a BB turbo, but the difference is minimal and you will hardly notice it!

If you are going for a Big BHP build you are really talking about an engine rebuild and mods to support it and many 1000's of pounds, just for info.

Oh right thanks that's really helped as i've been looking for ball bearing turbos mainly.

yea i'm looking to get my engine rebuild in a few months after but as the turbos are dead now thought i would do them first backwards i know.

I see you point here...but it will mean paying the engine-out labour costs twice :(

that RWHP mac? And StgV, that stock tubs?

Yep, RWHP, and I suspect StgV means - Induction, Exhaust, Chip, 1bar boost on std tubs.

that RWHP mac? And StgV, that stock tubs?

So I am told but dont forget its US BHP so it is not measured in the same way.

I'm thinking about ordering this engine rebuild kit aswell

any good?

Might also get the Splitfire coil packs with some bigger injectors.

You will need bigger injectors, haven't heard anything great about the coil packs so give them a miss, you will need bigger intercoolers and a new chip/custom map, probably a Koyo rad and bigger oil cooler as well, would be sensible!

Cool yep, border racing fuel rail and greddy front mount to follow shortly, got a mines chip sitting at home, koyo rad and greddy or stillen cooler when i do my engine.

TopLess my usual mechanic has been good to me in the past so i'm getting him to fit everything but would you fancy setting it out and running consult checks, just do what you guys do to make em pull like a train ;) set my boost controller up and replace the gearbox oil with that redline stuff, i live in Norwich if that's a problem or not. could you send me a private message on prices and that.

I just want the car too be running sweet last year it had a full service but without the Zed full servise eg. water pump etc. jusat one a normal car would have.
