LOL yeah i was considerin the RAF but i still have a caution for being caught with cannabis for a couple of years, but i also need another couple of years free of ashtma to make 4. I did a hell of a lot of research into this, and it is a great venture by all accounts. Although the whole missing the family might get a bit hectic

HTH

:D

I tried to join when I was younger, but failed the medical 3 days after passing the aptitude test with flying colours (Sorry for the pun).

Was applying for a position as propulsion technician, although I now build fuel systems for various aircraft.

well having been ex army myself mate, i am pleased that im out now, not been able to plan stuff and always getting told wen to take leave, ok its a great social scene but the *****cks involved is crap, if i hadnt have done my selection for a certain unit i would have been out ages ago, dont get me wrong whilst i was in i loved it and royal will back me up on this, its awsum in parts but wen you come out, u notice the difference.

I would recommend it, when I was in the services it was the best job I have ever had the only reason I came out was due to a knee injury playing Rugby.

Go for it mate - I did 15 years in the RAF as an electronics engineer on flight simulators. Great training, great opportunities, great mates and an all round great life. Set me up a treat for civvy street.

i'm in the raf at the mo. personally i think its awesome. there is a fair amount of crap that goes round but the good far outweighs the bad and the social side is pretty good. in the end its as good as you make it. go for it mate!

alex.

my son is in the , raf cadets, based in kenly , he wants to join the raf, he bin up in glider etc already and done some hours in a prop tutor plane allready. any idea what age they have to be to join the raf, , is he better of staying where he is , for now, then moving on , or is there a raf young regement , he could join to get on board quicker!!

If you can get in as a trade that will be useful when you comeout,go for it. I did 9 years as a techie trade in the Army and loved it...walked into a job in IT Managment when I left...have now taken a job as a consultant..

Go for it if you can take the discipline,

He can apply 3 months before his 16th birthday if he wants to (Assuming it hasn't changed since I applied), my advice would be to stay in school/college and do his A levels, then use them to apply for a better position in the RAF

good avice...

Go for it. IF you could stick it for 16 years you would even get a good pension and then get another job and be earning good money! Think carefully about the trade you go for, ready for what the real world might want when you leave.
