Not wanting to start arguments etc. I know why it’s gone this is just a question for Mike I suppose.

Can we get instead of a post count, a ranking system? i.e.

0 - 100 posts = Newbie

101 - 500 posts = Junior

501 - 1000 posts = Enthusiast

1001 - 2000 posts = Post Whore (maybe not, but you get the idea)

And so on.

Not put how many posts = what ranking, just something so there is an indication of how much input you give to the site. Helpful for when buying/selling maybe?

That's a bloody great idea, you have my vote...

That's a nice idea, and a lot of forums have that. But I suppose you would loose your personal "topic" when you enable that feaure.

Could just put it where the old post count was

I'm not sure how editable the vBulletin board engine is really, usually the rank comes where the "Registrered user" text is for us, and I think that's where it would come in this case too.

True and although I call myself an enthusiast I have never owned a zed and know very little about them (compared to say Andy P and John Dixon;)) but have around 2500ish posts (probably a little under than) so I don't know.

Would also have to have a special rank for mac.....20,000+ = Gearbox muncher or something ;):D

If you are really bothered then just click on the username and then click view profile and you can see what post count they have. easy peesy.

Its all there you just gotta look. :D

I believe something along these lines would be a good idea, when replying to or reading a post on technical advice or especially items for sale or wanted its good to be able to tell how active they have been on here without having to look at their profile.

Yeah but i am yet to find the BBLC (bacon buttie lovers club) online :( So i'm left to antagonise vini and he can do the same. By the way VINIBOY!!!! I have bacon in so you know what time it is....

seen a few forums that use a points system - i.e. ask a technical question, award points (say 100) to the best answer, or divide as you see fit amongst the various replies/ solutions... once the question is answered, the starter closes the thread. Not sure how applicable this is to vbulletin, but keeps the tech info concise, and awards people who contribute to the technical aspect of the forum.

Sounds like an excellent idea but how difficult would it be to do? Sounds like something that Mike would have to deal with so perhaps he can let us know if its possible.

Go back to normal system IMO and ban the people that abuse the system. Easily moderated and people get the feature they want back :)

Who agrees ?

Yup, no problem with that personally, I know the Moderators have been up against it just lately and think the decision needs to be mainly up to the people that have to implement it.

It would have to be on a daily post average to make any sence because I have over 2000 posts but I have been a member for over 4 years so it works out at less than a post per day.

yup i agree

i like the post count, ive already posted my reasons for liking it, so i wont do it again

yep great idea - with slight modification

have the banded number of posts .......

0 - 100 getting started

101 - 100 interested

1001 - 2500 comitted

2501 - 5000 long standing

over 5000 "the daddy"

and if anyone goes over an average of 10 posts per day the revert to "WHORE"

mike - this must be possible :D

Regards,

alex

Or we could do this,

0-100 In a spot of bother, but young and enthusiastic.

101-500 A bit skint

501-1000 can't stop now

1001-2000 re-mortgage

2000+ :mac1: ...

5000+ too old to care.

 Nice.

I'm not too bothered either way. However I do think the average idea is a good one, because then along with the join date you can quickly see how active a member is. Maybe making the average over the last 3 months or whatever would also be good so that people who don't use the forum any more, but have 5000 posts don't look like they're still active.

I realise that somebody, and probably Mike I'm guessing, is going to have to implement this, so it's just an idea.

I think the moderators need to use a bit of democracy here and have a vote poll, IMHO ;)
