Chuffed, I got flashed by a camera in Plymouth a month or so ago and have been worried that I'd end up with 9 points and the potential of losing my licence if I got flashed again. Instead they have put me on a speed awareness course. It'll still cost £60 but I wont get the points.

It was ridiculous as I thought it was a 40mph limit so I was going along at 39mph completely aware of my speed. I then got flashed because it was a 30mph zone (doh!). Oh and it was at midnight with not another car (or person) in sight.

I got the picture off of them as I wasn't sure if it was me driving at the time. It would have been too much hassle to contest it and the cost of driving back and forth up the country would have been several times the fine. So I'm happy that they have put me on the course instead of giving me points, plus I've got another photo of the Zed!

Well regardless of the outcome its certainly made me a lot more careful of my speed. It was a nightmare driving around thinking I could be on nine points. It's easy to have a heavy foot when there seems no safety reason for the speed limit (such as late at night through motorway road works) but I've always been careful not to speed in built up areas, and this was pretty stupid. It didn't serve any purpose flashing me other than a waste of £60 but I do consider myself lucky as having the extra points would be a nightmare.

Ypu wait till you get on the course bud, did it a couple of months back. A day and a half of some muppet "teaching" you how to drive like your granny out shopping. Points to be aware of: a) you can "fail" the course and b) you can be thrown off, both will result in you going to court. I was threatened with being thrown off for being argumentative: My Offence was to ask what standard we were expected to drive to, as all the people in the car had passed their driving test, and it was no where near the advanced standard.

Could be worse you could be driving around with no insurance like a certain member of the club
