So what is so different about skylines that make them that much quicker? are they lighter or something?

the conrods are shorter so can take more power, multiple throttle bodies better response. but I,m sure more mechanical minded people can rattle of alot more and in greater detail

Slightly lighter, but the extra grip that the GTR has helps. But in standard form, there not really much quicker.

But are they not less horse power too though

oh right, well at the end of the day i suppose you need to put lots of money into any of the cars to have them sorted out.

Well speaking from personel experience, i sold my zed just over a year ago and bought a big power supra, great car well built but the car i got had doubts so i sold it on, then bought a 450 bhp R33 GTR again fab car out handles the zed with ease but still a big car and always thought it needed more power for the size of it!! the car was lovely but got soooo much attention, got crowds of people gather round it where ever i went and i looked into going to the next power level and it would cost £££££'s so got offered a decent power R32. So bought that and had 600BHP very fast, handled very well and IMHO was the best car i have had for a "all in one" car but its ugly and i could never bring myself to love it :) so got made a silly offer so it went and there was only one car i wanted again and it was another zed.

Says it all really been there had them all gone back to a zed and dont regret it

I think the RB26 (GTR Engine) is more tuneable, as in easier, it also has bigger turbos I think. Some engines just work better than others too.

Its pretty simple

V6 = hard to work on lol

Straight 6 = everything is on one side :)

I wouldn't consider anything other than a GTR. My mate had a GTS but I thought it was pretty boring compared to a Zed and had b*ggar all power. I wouldn't mind giving a big power one a try , for the rear wheel drive, though. I love the GTRs' as they just seem like pure drivers cars. They dominate the track so much it's silly. I agree that they don't look anywhere near as good, although I quite like the look of the R34.

I nearly went for a GTR when I bought the current Zed, but in the end it came down to sensibility with the cash. The GTR seems a financial step above the Zed, although I'd be interested in what you have to say Kirbz after owning one. Are they more expensive to run than a Zed? or is it just the initial outlay?.

yes i agree, thats another car i like aswell, the shape of the supra looks the don i think, but standard i think there shit, modded i think they could be one of the best cars, same as skylines and zeds.

you never see a GTO modded though do you, why is that.

Yeah, I think that's true. I've seens some mint looking modded Supras, but as standard they're a bit minging.... just like the Skyline in fact. It depends a lot on the colour though. Don't get me wrong I like both the Supra and the Skyline in different ways, but when I was looking at mad Jap cars I was conscious that I was going to have to live with the decision for quite a while. :) And overall I think I've made the right decision... in any case I always liked the zed, but you never used to see many of them around.

Oh yeah, GTOs.... passed one coming the opposite way yesterday. It's true you don't often see them modded, but I think they're looking really dated now anyway: it'd take quite a radical facelift to make me want one of those.

The only other Jap car I would swop zed for is the Skyline GTR. I can forgive its looks for the superior handling.

Staight 6 will rev to destruction if you don't limit em. They get to acertain point and what to keep reving.

Personally I didn't like the R33 GTR Vspec because they handle so well with all the aids that Me and the way I drive I'd be dead in know time. Cos at the speeds you end up going into bends to keep the heart pumping :headvswal if you loose it you aint getting it back.

All in all I really think the Zed is a more rewarding drive, but I'd swap it anyday for a Noble or a New Esprite.

so we all agree the skyline range are awsum, but if it really came to it and was handed to you, would you hand your baby over, im tempted but i couldnt handle it wen i went to shows and saw the car on a stand and i wasnt next to it, id be gutted.

karl

All depends on your interpretation of modded ? if you mean chaved up body wise ;) then probably not, most of us GTO lot tend to go for subtle body mods or just bringing them up to 99 spec.... why spoil something that looks as good as this.........

gt2.jpg

But if you are talking about engine mods there are plenty around the 500 BHP mark and one over 600 in the UK at the moment and most are on standard internals, so why someone said that they are not very tunable is beyond me  just to give you an idea of how strong our engines are one guy in the states is running about 800 BHP on a standard bottom end!!

Oh and you can change both turbos with ease with the engine in situ. :D

Martyn

my god possibly the first gto to which id think LOVELY.

My next car has to be the gtr-v-spe as i drove one yesterday and oh my god was it quil off the line. just hate the front lights wud love to see a skyline with modified front lights.

Must admit that is one FINE GTO!!! Well done to the owner, made it look very nice...

Skylark wise, I have started lookinf towards them of late but I think thats because my Zed is SORN with a blown headgasket at the mo, so I'm depressed, and looking at Skylark prices, thier reasonable.

The only one though that I would chop my Z in for is a GTR34 V-Spec, black with gold allies, after that, its the Vanquish.....hmmmmm.....one day... ;)

Go for it, you know it makes sence!!

LMFAO :D

Aiiiii you are about right bud, same as the Soup! Maybe Nissan on the one hand knew that the Z was a show but no potential go motor but the Skyline might be more susceptible (think that's how you spell it) is alot easier to sort for performance power gains! Because of the easy access turbo(s) etc.

Bit like the MR2 Turbo, oh look I can see my Turbo, can you see yours? PMFSL :D :D

fuking lovely that does look nice.

is the 2.5 turbo quicker then our zeds

also wat will our zed beat or at least keep up with

R32GTR

R33GTR

Pulsar GTiR's

Lotus Extige

Evo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7

Impreza WRX, STi, WR1 etc etc

Mitshbishi GTO etc

Toymota Supra, MR2T, Soarers

Lots of TVR's

I could go on all night basically!!

Rich, in fairness mate it's not about how many cubes you got or how many Tubbys you got.

Why do so many people junk the twin turbos on a Soup or Skyline for a single turbo setup?

It's tuning at the end of the day, we just don't know how to do anything worth p1ssing in in this country TBH. Well we want to be able to do what they can do else where in the world but all our tuners are interested in is dollar/euro/pound signs! Not in producing decent well tuned motors unless it's promoting their own business and then you see them pull out the stops! ;)

That GTO is nicest I've seen, but still not anywhere near as nice as many zed's IMO, and there is so many reasons I would'nt have a GTO other than just looks.

Have to respect the Skyline GTR, but I would still rather have a Zed.....it just seems to me that Nissan spent a lot more investment on time and money of the design of every aspect of the zed, whereas its clear to see they only spent the money on the engine and 4wd system on the skyline and ran out of dosh for the rest.

If the UK Zed tuning scene is lacking in potental, then its easy enough to look overseas.
