right guys just need some help with a engine proplem

when you turn the engine over the cam belt+ cams dont move??? the car has just been bought by myself knowing this problem but got told the cams had gone??? but i dont think they have. this was the imformation from the rac who looked at the car a while back when it broke down with the last owner?? is there somthing else that can stop the movement of the cams + belt

If all camshafts have seized, it could have been caused by an extreme case of overheating (heads have warped far beyond specifications)

Though I've seen this before on a car that had one seized camshaft and it was caused by oil-starvation, because an oil channel under the camshaft was completely blocked.

hydro-locked or seized engine or faulty/damaged starter motor/ring gear

I presume you have checked that you have enough power in the battery bud ;)

Is the cambelt intact? Only think that springs to mind is that if the belt had gone and bent some valves, one or more valves might be physically touching the cams and stop them turning. Not sure you would get much movement at all out of the engine though if that was the case.

Phew, experts on the case ^^^...I'll bail out

If the cam shafts were seized the crank would still turn

power in battery

all other belts turn when turning over

if you put car in gear and turn the ingniton cams and belt move???

 cheers guys will get somone in to take a look for me so i dont cause to much damage my self  me and a big hammer dont go well together

If crank is turning but belt and cams not then the linK below is the problem, with a bit of luck you will get away with the same solution.

Belt breaker

the guy told me the car cut out on a round about so fingers crossed if that is what has happend i might get away with it.

but checking the recipts i got with the car se-nissan ltd did a engine rebuild only 11k before this happend at a cost of £3,770  along with lots of other things total bill £4622,33

MAXSUNNY, is it an auto? if it is you will defo be ok, if a manual the speed hopefully should have beeen slow enough to get away with it, unless he tried to bump it.

Fingers crossed.

its a manual

dont think the rac would try and bump start a car???

iam not to worried if its knackard as i know the engine dident work so if it needs a rebuild yet again at least i got it cheap and have plenty of time to do it

Quoted :dont think the rac would try and bump start a car???

Noo... I meant the owner when the belt went, it would be tempting to think it had stalled or something and then dip the clutch select second and bump it thinking it will restart.

he said the lights just come on the dash and it just coasted to the side of the road with no power, he just turned the key and it would not fire back up so called the rac !!

That should be good news then, strip the front, retime the engine and replace the belt, refit the minimum to start the engine.

If it fires up GREAT switch off and reassemble fully, then start up and set up the engine as normal, checking timing etc.
