How do you remove the (series 2?) perspex tailgate panel?

Tried to take my perspex rear panel off earlier as I wanted to see if the high level brake assemlby is actually bonded to the back of this thing as I can't work out why these rear panels retail at £30 and £80 for what is seemingly the same thing but with a little clear bit in the middle. I want to replace anyway with a black item.

Anyway I undid the two bolts at either end of the tailgate, then took the trim away, and undid the centre 2 bolts which look like they hold the light unit in place.

Couldn't see any other bolts to undo. So tried to lightly prise the panel away from the tailgate. SNAP! and the result is as you see below.

So could anyone answer the two questions, a) why are the units such a difference in price, is it because of the reason I have stated or is it purely the fact that the centre bit is just clear...and b) how the hell do you take the feckin' thing off???

si they are usually bonded on it's 4 bolts 2 in the centre 2 on the outside edges a blue square fixing on the left (and possibly more if the holes were drilled out) and usually got mastik on them to but i can say these panels are put together like the rear centre panel the difference between brake light/non brake light versions is the cleard area on the front they put on the brake light lens is actually there (well at least it was on mine when it arrived)

So that's over double the price just to have that clear bit in the middle? :(

Cheers, what's this square blue fixing then?

it's a snap in fixing they put on you need to look in the rear of the tailgate and you should see it poking through somewhere but if yours has a later tailgate or someone has drilled holes there could be up to 4 of them

Hmmmmmm, I'm gonna have to smash it to bits to remove it as I couldn't see any other fixings. It is the original tailgate too by the looks of it.

Zcentre sell perspex lens the £30 is a plain panel the £80 panel (inc) brake light, be very carefull with these as there very delicate, even taking them out of package as panel will snap if not carefull.

what i don't understand is why they dont make the damn things in polycarbonate rather than acrylic... really isn't much more expensive but the benefits is enormous!!

it would bend rather than crack!

Yeah, but the £30 lens doesn't come with the little clear window for the brakelight. That costs £80.

Just dunno how something patheticaly brittle like that would last in the post.
