While risking being accused of being a miserable / critical old git, can I please make a plea.

If you are responding to a question someone has asked (Z technical or otherwise), it is only fair to make it clear how you came up with the knowledge which led to your answer.

Two 'caveats' which SHOULD be used far more than they are :

1) In my opinion ...

2) From what I have heard ...

And the one which is best and is often implied but less often true :

3) From my own experience ...

Over the years there have been a few old wives tales about these cars and I've seen them getting passed on to new owners.

I'm not saying what's prompted this post but it does need sorting I think. I don't want to stop opinions - often it's all we have.

However, let's be honest about our degree of certainty in the answer before some poor sod loses money / gets engine damage because of it.

Sorry to be boring but I've received 'misguided advice' in the past and so have had my own fingers burned by this.

Cheers !

Dave

I agree Hairy mate, so from now on can you all ring your local Nissan Main dealer for advice of a professional and informative nature! ROFLMFAO biggrin.gif

Don't know why we bother with any Tech to be honest, why not just point people straight at TT.net and tell them to run a search instead! Every scenario and its mother and its brothers and sisters, aunties, uncles and pet rabbits has been done to death anyway! wink.gif

IMHO before I get David lynched by the Tech crew! biggrin.gif

Dave I see your point, but if someone tells you to jump of a cliff, because it'll cure your headache, it's still your decision whether you think this is going to work for you or not..

I think most tech-tips are based on own experiences anyway (at least mine are) and like Tim says..it never hurts to do some more investigating on the subject at eg. twinturbo.net or z32.org

Fair point Eric and, I agree, most people suggestions are from personal experience. It's just something that's been niggling me and my note was prompted by someone posting something which I know to be incorrect because I've actually done it.

And the jumping off a cliff thing does work. I do that most weekend (and I'm not joking!). But that's another story ...

Cheers

Dave

One question Dave - did you correct whatever it was that was posted incorrectly?

Hi Dave,

Was your previous 'misguided advice' through someone's...

1. opinion...?

2. From what they'd heard...?

3. From their own experience...?

Az,

I emailed the person who asked the question. It wasn't a 'dangerous' error or anything. We've had too much conflict on here for me to want to start posting "no you're wrong" posts !

Dave

Just wondered Dave, that was all smile.gif

I'd hate to think that one of us had given bad advice and nobody had told the person who'd had the advice given to them, that's the last thing I (and any of us, I'm sure) would want

Hi Steve, how you doing ? Long time no speak.

I suspect that the advice I went on (which wasn't from the forum and was pre Z) was someone's guess work. They just knew more than I did. I hadn't appreciated that knowing more than I did wasn't the greatest of compliments and there was a lot they didn't know !

I wasn't trying to make a big deal on this one - most advice on here is sound. Just that adding the source / reason for opinions just gives an extra bit of information and people can make their mind up how much they rely on the advice.

See ya guys !

D

I agree with you totally Dave.. there's nothing more annoying than a response based on inaccurate information!

Now where's that sunshine?

Steve

Ah yes - it's the sunshine you're waiting for. Has the garage door been open yet this year ?

Now come on rich bloke, buy a TVR for the winter !

Surely nobody would just take the advise on this forum as absolute gospel, without getting a few other opinions first?

All newcomers should check out the FAQs on TT Net and then come on here for the English translation after! wink.gif

Banzai me old fruit bat...

If you're who I think you are...I love yer car mate! wink.gif

Keep 'em guessing! LOL biggrin.gif
