Just wondered what you guys thought of my (almost ex) estemmed collegues in the news today! It looks like the average p*ss up and joining cerimony to me, until the block in the nurse outfit goes to far. Getting naked and wearing womens clothing is an age old tradition peculiar ot the Royal Marines!! There is actually very little bullying that goes on these days, and people that do bully generally get taught a lesson pretty soon by others that don't like to see it. Anyway I was just curious to see what people thought as recruitment is already a problem and I doubt this will help. Dave

Didn't see the whole clip but I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

If you're going to train people to go all over the world and do stuff which includes killing nutters and children you've probably got to adjust them a bit.

I could be wrong though - you're the expert!

got a couple of mates who are ex marines - they both seem fairly normal - apart from wearing the odd bit of womens underwear - hang on was kirbz in the marines???

:xxx: kicking him in the face dont like that much, blokes on his knees tied from the scrap hes been in,then he kicks him in the chops, wanxer

Thanks mate, I really appreciate your wise words there. Apart from the obvious things I could reply with; you should remember the people in the forces are someones kids, someones parent, someones partner who is sent away to a war zone on the other side of the world by a government that has been voted in by this country. They don't choose what to get involved in, the military is an extension of the governmental arm.

I choose to join for the challenge, travel and survival. I've never drunk much and don't really go for that side of things. There are a lot of drinkers in the forces , maybe due to the stress of the lifestyle. I've left because I've done the things I wanted to do, and have a longterm partner I don't want to put through the things a service partner has.

The training may be the hardest in the world, but it doesn't have a module on child killing. Indeed I know of a Royal Marine who has delivered a baby in a warzone (and didn't eat it after) when no medical assistance has been available.

Drunkeness, nakedness, and fighting all go together with life in the forces and although looking thuggish it does promote comradship. The idiot who went to far in the video probably caught it up off someone else later, as this sort of behavior certainly isnt accepted. Bullying, in my experience, is very rare these days .

What I was getting at was how people thought this would effect recruitment and peoples perception of the military. I guess your ignorant opinion has answered the question. The forces are essential for the stability of our country and recruitment problems could ultimately lead to national service being brought back. Some people think this is a good idea for the youths in society today, but do you or your kids/brother/sisters want to be recruited?

Maybe you should talk to your grand parents about what it means to be sent to war? and then read about US vietnam vets who have been mantally scarred and come home to be alienated by the population at home.

EDIT: This post was in answer to a misunderstanding. Craig David pm'd me and didn't mean things in the way I took them.

I completely agree with you mate, and I'm sure others in the Marines do as well. Chances are, unless theres more to it, he's been taught a lesson as I've said.

Stressful jobs require people to let there hair down in whatever way they feel happy with as long as they don't go too far. What a soldier does is not everyday normal so what they get up to does not get accepted by ignorant outsiders. Well that's the way I see it.

i had no problem with all the fighting etc it was just kicking a man when down and as you said he probaly got it himself later for the cheap trick, but as respect for those guys out in the middle east etc ,thats no place to be at the moment when your facing suicide bombers and snipers etc,i just wish the goverment would bring them home, christ they deserve it

I didnt see the footage/article so i cant comment on that. I pesonally dont like authority of any kind (except the misses) i tried the cadets when i was younger and even scouts before that and i was p*ssed off wiv the scout leader who was ex S.A.S and a pervert !!! so i left and i got kicked out of cadets for standin up to two seargents that thought it was funny to bully everyone till they turned into zombies when i say stood up to them i fought them both which was agreed by them and they lost soooo they kicked me out (had a mind of my own and humiliated them) and about 2 years ago i met up wiv me best mate i had know for most of my life, he had been in Iraq and without going into detail shot the enemy and got dragged down for it!!! He is fooked up in the head and a lot of old mates have said the same bout him !! I realise these men and women are fightin for us but the world is fooked up and it is drivin these people insane surely there is a way to stop this in the army ???

There is a saying that if your not crazy before you join the armed forces, then when you leave you will be (present company excluded). I am not crazy and don't intend being so!

The actual drunkeness and play fighting in the video is quite harmless and the usual initiation thing. The bloke who punches and kicks the guy is way out of line. I have dealt with bullying but it's not that widespread, at least not in the way this video portrays. I personnally hate it and didn't let it happen to people around me. I think the worst things about this video is that it portrays a very proud corps in a very bad way. Passing out of 8mths of training was the biggest achievment of my life at the time and it would have been horrible to have been frowned upon for being part of the Royal Marines Commandos over a mis-perception in the media. The actual incident is not a mis-perception and the culprit needs to be dealt with, but what people now think of Royal Marines is a mis-perception and it comes at a time when there is already a poor perception of the forces due to recent events.

I think most people realise that positions of power can either attract w@nkers or make w@nkers of certain people you only need to look at the police, parking wardens, doorstaff etc, there is always going to be an individual who puts other members of the "organisation" in a bad light. The problem is when this becomes the focus point (as in todays media) it can attract more of the wrong people and put the right people off. My military career was cut short by just such a guy and whilst I would do what I did again, it is wrong that these people put other persons in that position.Hopefully those who read the story, realise that the guy is the exception rather than the norm and are not put off joining up.

I do agree but people only see the negative side of it like anything really, how many "bad news" stories do you hear about or see in ratio with "good news" and thats wiv life in general!

forces and ex forces all have a different sence of humour, that no civi will every get (no disrespect), you eat sleep shit and fight with the men so your gunna build a great relationship up, to me i just laughed, coz its all just fun and carracter building.

wat gives people the right to say that this is bullying, they were all doing it, and not just on one person, its like wen you join you have to do milling, well you did wen i joined, isnt that the same, apart from these had there clothes off.............. IT IS TRUE BOUT MARINES THEN, THEY ALL HAVE SMALL COCKS, LOL SALOUTE THE PATHFINDERS.

I'm very, very sorry - I didn't mean any offence.

Let me explain.

As far as I know rapid reaction forces like the Royal Marines get sent at short notice to volatile places in the world where bad things are happening. Many of these places are very different to the UK. I was led to believe boys under 16 fight in these countries and inevitably our forces could have to face them.

I didn't mean our troops took any pleasure in it, just that it was a tough situation to be put it.

I mean it must be a traumatic possibility to face and that's why training methods to prepare them for this sort of thing could seem strange to those of us outside the armed forces.

I'm glad we have people like the Marines and I have a huge respect for what they do - I couldn't do it.

I didn't mean killing children was something they wanted to do but an unpleasant possibility they might face.

Maybe I'm wrong about the whole thing - I just saw it as a situation people like those on the TV might face and the rest of us might not understand it really, therefore not understand the training necessary to cope with this sort of situation.

Maybe my views are commonly held misconceptions - no excuse though.

Looking back at my post, I did word it badly - I'm sorry - I really didn't mean any offence and I relalise it was my totaly fault if I caused it.

The kick in the face was the only ott bit i thought. These are people being taught to fight and survive, not play patercake.

If your not mentaly strong enough to handel this bit of "fun" then thats not the job for you.

All in MHO of course

In reply to Craig David:

Thats ok mate, your pm and reply here is more than enough to clear up any misunderstanding. We'll have to share a drink at a meet sometime. As for what you say; maybe not in Iraq particulary but certainly in places like Sierra Leone, there were plenty of young kids caught up in the conflict. Maybe because the country as a whole is still very tribal and they are forced into it too. I wasn't there by the way, I was on 'holiday' in South Armagh. Anyway I'm happy to be finished and not going on any more 'holidays' in a green suit.

Dave

Wonder what they would think to having a Hesian Bag soaked in piss over your head with very loud "white" noise going on. Or very cold water dripped on your head for ages.

The kick in the head was a tad too far, but im sure it was all sorted at the bar.

Its funy all the people I am around think its disgusting behaviour, except me and 1 other bloke. Funny that we are ex forces

lol, yeah fair one. I don't think I've ever seen a hessian bag in an enjoyable situation!
