Hi Rodders and welcome to the club. Here are some answers for you:

Turbo - the only 300ZX with a single turbo (as standard) was the Z31 model (1984-1989) which is a completely different car.

Twin Turbo - the Z32 (thats more like it ;) )

Fairlady - nickname for the Japanese import version of the car (the Z32)

forget the Z31 unless thats the car youre after. 99.9% of this site is dedicated to the Z32.

Twin Turbo is fast (0-60 has been quoted as between 5 and 6 seconds although most will agree 5.5 / 5.6 is realistic for a manual transmission. automatics are slightly slower to 60 but slightly faster to 100)

standard bhp at the flywheel is usually 280 although quotes of 300 as standard exist too. you can tune it up to 320ish for reasonably little money.

if you have seen a turbo it will be twin, the fairlady id just the Jap name for 300zx, there are subtle differences, do a search on it for more info.

Failady= Jap

300zx= Uk/USA

Turbo= will be twin

Twin Turbo= Does what it says on the tin :D

or you can get a Non Turbo (or n/a = normaly aspirated)

all available with auto or manual

and just to confuse you a little bit more you can get a Short wheel base that has no back seats!

best combination?

Fairlady, twin turbo, Short wheel base, in black! ;) IMO or course

There's targa top (glass roof pannels lift out) and slick top (regular roof) too!

Targa is nice in summer, slick is lighter and more rigid.

Seems confusing but get your head round it all before you buy!

I've been looking at the 200sx as well.

Cheaper running costs etc...

Insurance too.

Dont know what line to go down, lol

200sx is a great car but .........

300zx is great think 0-150 rather than 0-60 :)

Well, im having a few troubles on insurance quotes.

They list a 300zx turbo, not twin turbo so I guess thats right? It just seems awfully cheap for me being its a 3 litre twin turbo???

Did any of you have this trouble and then they say, oh wait thats a twin turbo and whack the price up?

Make sure to tell them its a Z32 model from 1990-1996

That should make it easier

But also remember to try the performance insurers like Adrian Flux, Hy-performance etc etc. Not just the little side street brokers that only know Ford Focus's!

HTH

Rich

performance insurers like Adrian Flux, Hy-performance

:rofl:

just reminded me of getting a quote for an fto from hy-performance before i got the zed (i know their shite, but i hadnt driven a zed then!) -

on a car worth 6k, with me aged 21 2yrs ncb no points, fully comp - at least 10k!!!!!! - the girlie on the end of the phone just said, "im not going to say the exact cost - but it is well in excess of 10k!"

as a youngster, iv found that some of the more "mainstream" insurers have been better for me on the zed - tesco, admiral (my current insurer), elephant (part of the admiral group) etc

just have a good shop around bud!

Yep, exactly same for me. All of those you listed were cheapest for me.
