At the last Committee meeting we discussed the issue of “Drivel posts and Nonsense polls” on the Club’s forums and what to do about them. There has been an upsurge in the volume of these types of posts which have had the effect of cluttering up the forums and making it frustrating for our members to use the forums. Members have also complained about the standard of postings both in their content and in their style. The majority of these postings appear to come from the “younger” elements of the Club or simply people who don’t own Zs. The Committee felt that these posts and polls are damaging the profile and spirit of the Club to both subscribed members and that of potential new members visiting the forums.

The Club’s AUP is there to support you in your roles as moderators and for members to know what the forum's rules and guidelines are. The AUP will be updated to deal with “Drivel posts and Nonsense polls” and your input is welcome as to what ammendments and changes need to be made.

In the meantime would you close off “Drivel posts and Nonsense polls” with an appropriate comment. Clearly this is a subjective decision for now so if in doubt ask for support if you want it.

The above post is in the Committee/ mods forum, now although I dont feel it is my job to explain whats going on as I am the TLO I think its only manners to do so as the club Secretary is away on holiday until the weekend.

Members and traders have complained about Drivel posts.

Yeah im just trying to make a point.

not a very good one i would say. as iv said, its common sense. 99% of the members seem to have it when posting. we moderate the other 1%

im sure if you post a thread entitled " I wonder how long this thread will last before it is locked" you can guess the outcome!

yup, and if you look at my posts you will see i always support the mods in their actions. They do a good job IMHO.

But it does really look at the mo that threads are being locked for no good reason at all due to the new "Drivel" clause.

my £2's worth:

i think this club is brilliant, but suffers (as all things do) from a wide variety of opinion and differences as to what is drivel and what isn't drivel. some posts that go up in the general discussion area are definately interesting and useful/fun/etc. some are drivel (but interesting drivel - open to interpretation by 2000 different people as to what intersting drivel actually is) and some are just pointless post-whoring drivel and i think these threads/posts are the ones that some people may be complaining about.

Nick - I'm afraid to have to say but your first post annoyed me a bit because at the first sign of a little intervention (im not talking about all the threads that were locked recently, but about this particular thread) you thought well that's it the members aren't free to post up anything they want any more. Over the past few months I can honestly say I've not seen a single bit of moderation - everyone's been free to post whatever they like (useful or otherwise), a lot of craps gone up (again, open to interpretation what crap is and isn't), and now other members of the forum (not moderators) have complained about drivel being posted, albeit I'm not privy to what was said and who said it so this isn't based on any particular fact.

But your above post is very interesting, even this thread seems to have drifted slightly from the start topic.

The solution? I personally think a separate room (whether it be Rant Club or Fight Club or whatever) is the best place to keep drivel, so the General Discussion room is free for more relevant stuff.

Sorry to bring your name up Nick :( . Fire away  .

ok, i rarely lock or delete unless i really think it warrants it, but look at the quality of posts:

class! im sorry, but if you cant use common sense to see that thread needs moderating then i dont know what else to say!

you cant have hard & fast rules regarding posts like that because there is so many variables!

Hmmm, 3 people at 2am in one thread haveing a giggle with each other. Yeah can see the need to stop that before it get out of hand

Yeah im just trying to make a point. Your enjoying this thread and therefore to you it is not drivel. To someeone else it might be. So where is the bouderies?

point made, but I think it's time too :D

Mate not at all, you have your opinion as does everyone on here and thats where my argument is. We all have our own opinions on what we want to read on here and what we dont. My argument is not that mods keep locking threads left right and center because they dont. My argument is that WHAT IS DRIVEL AND HOW DO YOU MODERATE IT. At the mo there are threads that are fun and have nothing wrong with them that have been locked because they are deemed drivel by one or two people.

never said it would get out of hand, it just doesnt look very appropriate on a public forum IMO (& many others)

i moved it to another section of the forum, feel free to carry on the thread there nick!

what is the problem about starting the threads in rant club anyway?? if someone posts a for sale thread in the help & advise section that would get moved too!

And Paul C. Im not pointing the finger your way. I just want to know whats goign on here and all I'm getting is "because we say so" and no real argument from the mods.

i will agree with that

Cheers mate  ;)

i think youve hit the nail on the head Nick - "what is drivel and what isn't drivel"

if members want to post up "im drunk" or "fart or burp" (my apologies to whoever started that thread) then they should post (or the thread be moved) to Rant Club (or shall we just call it 'unmoderated club'). This keeps General Discussion free for topics which would appeal to a broader audience.

Right, but where is the guidlines as to what constitutes drivel?

You not seeing my point mate.

WHAT IS DRIVEL AND HOW DO YOU MODERATE IT.

GOD!! how many more times - use your common sense!!

& dont go saying one persons common sense is that much different because most of the threads had members posting "ooh, i wonder how long before this thread is locked??"

they are the threads that you need to think about where to post it! :headvswal

see, it really is that easy to work out!!

You not seeing my point mate.

no. you are avoiding mine!

The problem with using Rant Club, is that it's only for subscribed members, and not registered! Some of the 'Drivel' is posted by registered aswell!!.

It's been said before and I'll repeat it again, we need a Lounge area in the Open Forums section, as well as General Zed related and Q&A sections.

they are the threads that you need to think about where to post it! :headvswal

Ok I have two threads.

"my foot fell off, oh no i just fell over"

that one is clearly going in Rant club because it total shit. I understand that

the next is

"Hottest curry you have ever eaten?"

Its drivel and stupid but could be an interesting thread just to hear peoples funny storys on a very hot curry. So is that general discussion or rant club? Where's the guildlines as to when drivel is too much drivel.

"fart or burp"

OOIIIIIIIII THAT WAS MY THREAD!!!!!!!! :nelson:

Soz if it was in the wrong section. :o

Thats easy, non sub'd members get their posts deleted. Sub'd members get moved the new category that we DESPERTLEY NEED

We need a 'muppets corner' I think. I for one will be a regular there!

again, i would use common sense. if the members posted about the culinary delights of eastern food then i would leave it in general.

however, if it degraded to how it made you sh*t through the eye of a needle & burnt your ass whan you cr@pped then i may consider moving it!!

Rite so we are moving threads now not locking them? I thought it was locking for drivel posts as has been happening?

lounge area, now that is a good idea, a free for all so to say, moderator free zone where you can post what you like (apart from racist abuse and the likes)

why couldnt this be set up, that way if you dont like it dont go in there

i dont agree with closing threads without the moderator writing a quick post at the bottom saying why.

why was the bon jovi post closed?

and till everyone gets used to posting drivel in the "rant club section" it will go on

why dont the mods just 'move' the drivel into the rant club section - sure we will all get the message that way, without upsetting people

IMO. I think the removal of the post count would illiminate most of the bad threads so there is good reason for this. It has been metioned before.

I still say we put it to the vote in a poll on the memebers area an open poll. Infact i'm going to start one right now. I believe I am allowed to do so if I please?
