alot of people on the forum dont like football and therefore just see him as drunk, and not a football legend.............when james hunt died there was the same media hype and he was also a "playboy"...people like these dont come along often and when they die your going to get a lot of media attention.......

Its got bog all to do with football, sport, or how much cash he earned etc, all the fuss is because he is famous and the media love sensational stories about wayward celebs.

He had the chance to be rich and famous and he wasted it, so I wont have too much sympathy for him, he made his choices (loads of drink and shagging stunners) :D

Mind you I gave even less of a s**t when princess Di croaked it and all the saddos were wailing in the streets LOL.

fat people cant be operated on but they gave a pisshead another liver wot boolooks is that he was a legend in his own right but chose to be a piss head

It was a shame but he was Irish and that means that he would always like a drink! He was an amazing footballer in his prime though, his family and fans will be gutted! :(

he was a legend..

been an alcoholic must be a bit like been a smoker, you stop smoking and your sure its for ever, but in a few months your back on them, its very difficult and everyone is different some can do it some can't.

the bloke had an amazing life.

I bet everyone on this forum (including the women) wish they had nailed just one of the birds he had!!!!!

Not about in his footballing time but thats not what I liked him for....

I liked him for the fact that he lived a lifestyle that lots of people could only dreamabout....Booze,Drugs,Girls

Just because their is a social opinion that lots of the above are bad for you...

So f#ckin what

This man may have only lived near-on 60 years but he's probably had several lifetimes of pleasure in the space of one of the joe public's ...

Afterall....Life is short ;)

This was a hard one for me to answer owing to the wording of the questions.

I do not think he was a legend by any means, more a (very bad) role model for today's overpaid, under-intelligent footballers.

He also blew the second chance he was given after the liver transplant. A lot of ordinary people who have a heart attack and survive, change their lifestyle to prolong their life after that warning reminding them of their own mortality. George did not, he just continued to abuse his body and in so doing, showed complete contempt for other folk desperately waiting for a new liver.

However does anyone (with the exception of Gary Glitter and other kiddie fiddling filth) really deserve to die?

Because of that last statement I voted "no" but I really do not care a jot because it doesn't affect me at all. I certainly do not think he deserves all the media coverage and posthumous adoration.

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i cant believe the comments on here... just another dead piss head.. how fekking narrow minded can you get.

you might not like footy, fair enough, but the guy was brilliant at what he did, he became even more infamous for his off pitch escapades, drinking and shagging, probably what most people aim to do every weekend. The only difference being he had the means to access more beer and the fame to access supermodels, fvcking good on him im sure most of us would do the same, except maybe to know when to stop, but when your an alchy thats something you cant do.

You have to have appreciation of what makes people great, saying he just another dead piss head, in context is like saying that the zed is just another creaky rusty bag of bolts like all the other shopping trolleys out there, you wouldnt like that would you.

pi55es me off when people say about someone else could have had his liver or he wasted it

He died from an infection from an operation not drinking, yes drinking started it all off with him needing a liver transplant but he was on the normal transplant list and one came up that only he could have due to the match

Which stemmed from him having to take drugs to suppress his immune system in order for his body to accept his new liver. Why did he have the liver transplant?

PLUS, he carried on drinking AFTER he had the transplant after strict instructions that it could kill him.

whats pissing me right off at the moment and will do for the next couple of weeks is the fact that the media who are vermin in my eyes for the last 5 or so years have done nothing but slate him. Nevermentioning at all the charity work that he did, but now the fvcking hypocritical 2 faced *******s are no all saying what a wonderful person he is and it will be in the papers for weeks. 2 faced tw@ts the lot of em.

He had a transplant cos he was ill, he was an alcoholic which is an illness

just amazes me that after someone dies its so "British" to concentrate on the bad bits and not the good bits

Exactly...Spot on ;)

spot on Steve couldnt agree more but as i said above isnt it so "british" now a days to slate someone rather than look at what they did good, like you say he raised millions and donated millions to charity over the years

George Best dead?? I wish someone would let me know

Why all the fuss? he only kicked a bloody ball around back in the 70s.

An old boy that fought in the 1914/18 war passed away last week, i never saw as much fuss over him, in the papers and on TV,, those old war guys deserve more recognition for what they put up with in the trenches.

Footballers get paid FAR too much anyway. He had a good 59 years, all the birds n booze. RIP n move on.

Big up for that. Did you watch the series called 'The Last Tommys' a few weeks ago? Really quite endearing that was.

RIP n move on.

errrrrr right then, so you dont believe in rememberance day then, they shouldn't have them, forget about it and move on is that what youre saying? A bit hypocritical dont you think when you say they dont honour the war dead?

Personally i think youre talking out of your arse.

Why all the fuss?

The answer is here

Clicky

he only kicked a bloody ball around back in the 70s.

I met george best in 1981 in hermosa beach california where he owned a bar called besty's , he was a terrific host ,had a wicked soh , he told us he had bought a ferrari but sold it back to the dealer a week later ..Its too f****** fast I'll kill myself in it , he chose to kill himself a little slower it seems , but alchohol is a wicked mistress and seduced him totally so although I cant help feeling sorry for him , he'd seen it , done it and wore the t shirt proudly , his life was lived to the max and he enjoyed it to the max ....so bye George and god bless

Yup...some thing we all wish we could do if people didnt have to fall into the typical stereotypes that most of the uk are turning into...

"I must be policticaly correct"....

"I must be responsable"...

:xxx:

Most of the british are like :-

"How high did you want me to jump?"

Best knew damn well what he was doing and I respect him for doing what he did...

Lived a life beyond comprehension

:( You live by the sword you die by the sword:(

and he accepted that

Big up for that. Did you watch the series called 'The Last Tommys' a few weeks ago? Really quite endearing that was.

Yeah watched it, brilliant program. Gave you a real insite into what it was actually like 1914 - 1918. Respect to all the Tommy's

I never said dont remmember him, just move on, its been nothing but G. Best for the last month, we even had a run down on how many hours he had to live. It was his choice to live the way he did. War victims never got that choice . So read it and stop talking out of your arse.

:smash:

RESPECT  Real heroes

Cant vote for both.

No he didnt deserve to die ......

The man was a the best footballer ever IMO he was a fookin genious, nothing wrong with being a piss head and partying your self to death but...someone else could have had a chance to live longer with that liver that was wasted, (how must the doners family feel right now) for that he was a complete w4nker.

I really do love watching the old war documentaries. Watched another on 'The Somme' as well not so long ago. Another interesting program on Auschwitz. Working my way through 'The World at War' series from the mid 80's again.

Only real reason I watch TV is for interesting and historical documentaries.
