Just wondering

Amongst a bunch of unashamed fossil burners, how do we feel about nuclear?

The government still (kinda) offers 50% subsidy for homes wishing to switch to solar but how will this serve industry? This sector has GIGANTIC needs which simply cannot be met by sustainable resources at present.

So how do we feel?

My vote is for nuclear with a budget including off planet disposal of high level waste. Am I a dreamer?

is it :hyper:

or is it :mac1:

Seems perfectly possible, the question is, who is going to pay for it? Taxes go up anywhere else in the world and there is a riot, so obviously it will be the British taxpayer who has to foot the bill. Wind and solar power are obviously sustainable, but who is going to set it all up? We could probably power this whole country (except for chunk's microwave  ) with solar and wind power alone, and maybe some HEP, but it won't happen :(

FUSION is the only way to go . A bath full of water will sustain a houshold wiv 2.4 kids etc. for 20 years. All we need to do is find some on a comet and we dont need to use our own water !!!

The alternative would be to cover Scotland with wind turbines to get enough usable power from them!

So, wind it is then!! :mac1:

mmm, fusion is probably the best alternative, up till now they've only been able to get the reactors running for a few seconds at most and even then they use more power than they generate. But they've just started construction of the ITR reactor in France which will be used to design a prototype that will actually be used to generate power.

Fusion could also be used as a handy method of waste disposal although inital reactors are probably going to be quite 'dirty' and produce a lot of waste themselves (which I suppose they could subsequently vaporise).

Put a windmill in funky si's bathroom, with all the beans he eats, should be dead easy to power a city or two
