Does anyone know how to put the Hicas into diagnostic mode?

I have tried the test on ttnet but can't get it to do anything.

Should you be visibly able to see the wheels turn when stationary?

The Test on tt.net works ok, it is just tricky to get the timing and order correct, i had to try it a few times to get it to work.

If i remmember correctly Z Viking has some usefully hints to get it to work, Perhaps driving the front wheels onto indepedent 2x4's.

When you do it correctly you should see one of your warning light blink out error codes, can't remmeber which but if you follow the tect on tt.net then you should be fine.

The HICAS will move the wheels by MAX 1 Degree at high speed, slower speed not even 0.2 Degree i think so No you will not see any movement unless you have a very very good eye.

What problem are you having Stu ??? chances are it is not the HICAS as it usually is pretty realiable.

yeah, the diag mode is a bitch to get going...

i got it once out of 10 tries, almost on the point of giving up !!

is this still related to your alignment problems Stu ?

Have you had that sorted now ?

As Nico said, i think the HICAS is generally pretty reliable, it's the ball joints you want to check if you are having trouble.

But, if you have had 4 wheel align done, they would have found a problem there right away.

That's ok I thought you could see it move. The rear wheel alignment was 15 degrees out and I was concerned how it got like this as someone must have done it deliberately before I bought it.

The Hicas must be working fine I guess as I don't get any lights come on other than when I turn the ignition on.

The Hicas diag mode set instructions on the TT.NET IS INDEED working....to achieve a faster / easier result, put your two front tires on some old magazines...this will allow you to turn the steering without a lot of effort.

While the HICAS is in diag mode...have a look at the rear wheel, and turn the wheel at the same time (car NOT moving)...you WILL see the rim move....especially if you take the body as a comparison point. As I have mine on tape, I know it's pretty visible

Finally, your 15 degrees off...

1st question is....WHAT was off ?

I still CANNOT beleive that ANYTING in the suspension was OFF 15 degrees (try to visualise a 15 degrees angle in front of you...it's HUGE, FIY, 15 degres is about the same angle as between |/)...usually, you can spot a 2-3 degrees error on a rim....your tires must really have been like \/ or /\...

Anyway...I do not think that it's possible to (mis-) align the stock suspension by 15 degrees.....there's not that much alignment adjustability.

The first (and only) reason I can imagine for having it mis-aligned by 15 degrees is that your Z hit something, or incorrect parts....or aftermarkets parts seriously mis-installed...

BTW, I'm in London 'till thursday (and nxt week mon-thu), let me know if I can help

Henri

thanks

Stu,

Check for Lateral Play in the rear wheels. Jack the Car up one side at a time and then shake the wheel in and out of the axel, if you get movement then let us know as you have a failed component somewhere.

As Henri said 15Degrees is near impossible for suspension adjustment.
