Have always gone down the PC route as this is what most computer experts have recommended!

But seriously thinking that a laptop may suit my mobile existence these days!

So IT experts what are the pros and cons of pc versus a laptop?

Featured Replies

Well mate a laptop will do anything a pc will, but slower and also it will not do games. Saying that the Acer ferrari and also the Dell XPS laptops are ok for gaming, so i've heard. What would the machine be used for mate? That depends a lot on whether you should go down the laptop route.

does that translate to porn and music Mark? :D

both, PC for at home and laptop for on the move :)

there is no substitute for a PC really :)

Some laptops are now just as powerful as desktops. Go for either a P4 or AMD 64 and XP x64.

This way you can put it away when not needed but still have the option of really good performance. I have an ACER Ferrari with 1GB RAM, 100GB drive and a new AMD 64 bit processor. It rocks. It even has 128MB graphics...and this spec is middcle of the road with some laptops...

Laptop all the way...

From what you said mate, a laptop with a huge hard drive for all your porn!

Thank you for assistance, the others I shall pray for in church! :D

Mark have you lost the plot mate? You were posting last night about a dodgy CrapTop battery that you'd bought! Which, pardon me if I'm being an idiot, but would imply that you already have a CrapTop! PMSLMFAO :D

You taking the correct dosage mate? ;)

Sorry Tim I forgot you are my personal puta advisor :D

Got a craptop to do Conzult readings on, and found myself using it more and more. It is a basic model and am thinking about ditching my PC as it takes up a lot of space and just getting a laptop and wireless net at home ;)

Just bought a lap top yesterday... I can't get on my pc anymore as my daughter is doing a level coursework on it all the time and I wanted to surf the net and chill on the sofa, so boyfriend helped me get one... I rang up dell, went to comet, pc world and currys

If you are willing to wait 10 days dell is good, I went to pc world in the end as I needed one quickly, got compaq amd 64 processor wireless enabled, 60 gb hard drive and graphics card nice big screen and dvd/cd rewriter, decent battery and a few other things but I forget

it also depends what your budget is as well, I spent about 800 quid I also got it interest free for 12 months,

I need it for teaching homework, database work, surfing, not into games so not a problem

if you want a warranty, all the other offer 3 or 5 years added to the price

which was too much for me, so I went with the monthly option.

I like desk tops so I needed a decent laptop size wise, it nows sits on my desk

If you need anymore info just call me or pm me, I've loved computers for years but I'm sure there more techie orientated guys here too!

LOL @ Mark :D

Yeah the Acer range of laptops are very good. Obvious choice would be the Ferrari but they are very expensive!

Sony Vaio are also excellent my Bro has one and it's very nice indeed.

I have an Acer Ferrari...excellent...they have some nice touches and even comes with a carbon fibre hood...

How much did you pay for yours Angus if you don't mind me asking? I think they're around the 1700 squids mark aren't they?

I got an AMD with all the bits for £1300. That is a pretty good spec as well and they do extra nice little touches that I have not had from any other company such as carbon fibre lid, red cleaning cloth, USB \ bluetooth mouse in Ferrari red etc.

The screen is wide, lots of RAM, good size drive, DVD writer, 4 USB 2.0 ports, network card, bluetooth built in...

I got mine from http://www.dabs.com

HTH mate...

I should also have mentioned the laptop is very light and very slim...which was important for me as I did not want a big fat heavy fooker...
