hi guys, having experienced some cold nights, Ive discovered that my rear factory standard spoiler has started to curl away from the boot in places, when i looked closer and pressed on the affected areas it was like crushing an ice pop, it seems water has got in and when frozen expanded and thats what has caused the problem.

I was wondering is there anything I can do to stop this happening or to somehow repair it?

cheers

take it off and get the fibreglass replica from luke prob solved.

not worth repairing imo as it would be a nightmare to dry out.

Best thing to do is to rip it off and either smooth the tailgate, fit a 99spec rear spoiler or a fibreglass copy OEM spoiler.

thanks guys. Is it a big job to get it off?

I quite like the look of having just the tail skin on the back but do you think it would look right without having a full respray to blend it all in?

cheers

Trust what they are saying it will turn into a nightmare and hold water rotting yer tailgate .. Get rid of it ..

Mine's just like that. Only spoiler I'd consider fitting would be the 99spec one. But TBH, with the colour mine is, it suits a spoilerless rear and will more than likely leave it as it is.

will it last the winter or do you think its best to sort it now?

how much was the cost in total to get your tail skin done mate?

Depends what state the tailgate's in. Take the spoiler off and have a look. Have a feeling there's some kind of bonding agent holding it in though, so could be a messy job.

I dunno. It was like that when I bought it. I'm gonna have the boot resprayed again when I get the chance is it's not perfect. Need to find a quality sprayer who can spray pearl well.

Might have found a place in Plymouth called Lloyd Coachworks. Not fussed about the cost so much just as long as it looks 101%

did u get yours done at the z centre?

ok thanks mate will start pricing it all up ...gulp..

There are 2 ways of doing it. Mine is not the skin spoiler, mine is simply a tailgate with the holes removed and a 99spec rear tailgate panel fitted.

The other route is to get the panel skin which is a slight lip spoiler. Can get it from Luke at the Zed Centre. These are nice too, but you loose the perspex panel and high level brake light.

If your's is red I might have the answer! I am removing my perfectly good spoiler next week as part of the new bodywork. It has no marks or peeling on it whatsoever. I will be selling it on here in a couple of weeks for around £100. So it would be a straightforward replacement for you.

I'm also sure it's the newer fibreglass because the boot is so light when you open it. I'll have to wait till it's removed to see. ;)

Ive done the same as FunkySi....but stuck a spoiler on top lol

The standard spoiler ALWAYS goes bad and you really should replace it asap before it rots your tailgate.

There was a cracking guide on spoiler remova but i always forget where it is. :headvswal
