Guys,

A while back a had a custom system fitted from Haywood & Scott (if anyones heard of them) in Basildon.

The build is good quality and pleased with them, however i had to have removable bungs made for the pipes at the end as the drone at about 2500-3000rpm was too much and made my ears hurt!

I was wondering if anyone else has this. I wanted to get rid of the bungs really as it sounds better without them, but was wondering if i put resonators in the centre or de-cat pipes it might be enuf to get rid of the drone.

What do you reckon?

Cheers,

Dan.

did they retain the H-pipe, fit a X-pipe or get rid of the joining pipe completley, just before the back boxes ?

The original H-pipe was designed to reduce that drone that is common with the zed engine.

Do you know what mate im not sure what they did, i havent had the car for a few months but hopefully be back in the next couple of wks so i will have a look.

You dont have any pics of this H Pipe do ya?

Cheers

My understanding of the main reason for the "X" or "H" pipe or what ever you call it was to balance the banks (cylinders) and give more performance, this may have changed tho noise too.

If an exhaust drones I feel it is down to poor design.

Trying to find a complete picture of the system to work out where this is as i havent got the motor at the mo.

But do you think if i got resonators fitted in the centres that would have the same effect as an H pipe?

i ahd a zed a few years back and had the full system replaced with a stainless one, they removed the h-section and i used to get a uneven noise coming from both exhausts when stood at the back as both banks dont produce the same note, i also used to get a drone at a certain rev.

i now have a zed with a stainless and the h-section left in, perfect.....

yeah i had a slightly different note on one compared to the other aswell...wonder whether its that then....i'll have to get it on a ramp when shes back....this H-Pipe is a seperate section is it or is it part of the CAT pipe?

i think if i remember right it's a seperate section, but dont quote me on that.

Ok been down the bodyshop today and tried to get under there and get some pics....it looks to me like they have removed the H-pipe, although its difficult to get under....heres a couple of pics...

Do you know if u can get performance H-pipes and that they would fit or do you need to fully rip out the centre section and build it in there?

i carnt remember if it comes after the cats (think it does) but i would expect a decent fabrication exhaust place would be able to make one up for you and fit it, dont think you can buy them...

wonder if this might help the nosie from my zed as well. Ive gone down the route of dynamating the boot to remove the drone at low revs... got to fit that this weekend and see if it helps... H pipe might be on the cars as well.... guessing even just a powerflow type place could fit one at the same time i get the cats taken out?

Check that the new exaust pipes are not sat on the cross member after the cats. If they are close, place some washers between the cross member and the car - and see if this makes a difference.

I had a Powerflow exhaust on a Z I bought recently and it was resting on the cross member - quality.

Good luck

...just a thought - the exhaust suspension rubbers Powerflow use are extremly hard - you could try softer ones - any exhaust place will sort you out - Ford fit well if you cut them in half (2 for the price of one).
