im thinking of having some new exhausts made in cardiff, just wondering if its worth it getting rid of the cats?

i take it, it wont affect my mot's?

also is it worth it on my sliktop? im looking to get that nice tubi sound so looking for a custom build.

yes or no?

wanna get rid of the single exhaust and double things up..

Mates Zed has De-Cat's his turbos spool up at least 800rpm before mine and the car feels loads more responsive on the throttle.. So I'm currently throwing my cats out and fitting a full Mongoose SS which I have to say even looks kewl..

i have got one big ass jap MS' K&N filter on the car but i will replace that with an aplexi cone.. or a dual feed

also what happens with the O2 sensors? do i just the car mapped then and re tuned??

whats the best procedure to follow having this done?

o2 Sensors are in the Elbows just after the Turbo's, and are not removed by decatting. No remapping or other modifications needed.

The cats do have Cat heat sensors in though, These can be cut and/or tucked up out of the way.

I had my cats gutted rather than a full replacement. Noticed quicker spool and mre throttle response.

Is there an echo in here ;) .....:)

so you just hdd all the crap inside removed then.. ok well i suppose i can just have straight throuh pipes made then? and new silencers on the rear?

i have also been told i can get them with a valve inside that bypasses the silencer or a part of it for a more throaty sports sound. is this right? if so anyone know who fits those incase pro speed dont do those?

basically im getting ready to have the work done in the new year, going to ztech shortly, buying bits already, and have some items upstairs boxed up.

got the leather for the interior on order from katzkin also newcarpeting.

got new pedals, sterring wheel, oil pressure dial, and a few bits for the engine bay.

then its the paint.

I cant explain how much difference this simple mod makes....

I had straight through pipes made for mine and the divorced wastegates downpipes fitted and my tubbies now spool @ around 2-2500rpm.

Their is a definate torque increase and the revs just hammer round and instead of loosing power at 6k+ it just keeps on piling in way past 7K

Awesome bang for buck mod and makes it sound better too ;)

Although apparently there is a risk when de-catting that you may upset the seal on the tubs and this can cause your tubs to burn oil or even blow...

But I ignored this like a typical chav and havnt looked back since

Heres my straight throughs i had made for less than £100:-

yep! its only from 1992 they can test with a cat and thats only if they have the spec for the car so im hoping with mine registered as a k reg but being an na they wont do a lower emissions test as i want to remove mine also.

If any of you guys are still watching this, when you did away with the cats what did you do bout the aiv valves? Did you just take them out and chuck 'em in the corner of the garage, or they still in the car? Just ordered my de-cat pipes which don't have holes for 'em! Had my '90 Z tt for 3 weeks now and still working my way round it! Best thing I've ever bought!!

Cheers

I would also like to know this answer.

PK1 - there is a risk of your turbo's going so I didn't risk the de-cat but depends on how confident you are with your tubs! My tub's have now failed anyway as a result of increased boost I believe so now I'm going to get her de-catted.

right.. i think i will leave the de-cat i aint that brave and dont wanna damage the tubz.. i will just have a cat back new exhaust made.. thanks guys but im a little chicken ;)

awwwww.......

lol...but seriously....

Ive decatted...have been running 16psi for 8months now(20,000miles) and its as sweet as the honey pots honey  :D

Having said that dont blame me if they go bye byes

If you can afford for the turbo's to go then go the whole hog and de-cat. I will add though that I had a suspicion my tub's were weak as they whistled slightly even before the exhaust and boost controller.
