I'm desperate to lead a more healthy life. Dispense with the junk food, enjoy eating salad and such like and become more active. ie go to the gym, run, go cycling etc etc.

I used to be very active and super fit. But have let myself go, especially over the past 5 years. Now I'm still an ideal weight for my height, so not really any problems there. BUT, I feel very very unfit, I want to tone up and feel better about myself.

This is all well and good, but I have a serious motivation issue, or lack of it. The gym bores me to tears amoungst other things, it's also the last thing I want to do when I get back home from work. When I do eat, it's as and when convenient, so it's not always a healthy option, although I do eat well, just have a lot of junk too. But I don't smoke and I don't drink all that much either, so no issues there.

I just can't get motivated or give myself a mind set to operate a healthy lifestyle.

So, last resort, thinking about getting hypnotised. Want to be helped a little bit. Want something upstairs to find it good and exciting to eat and lead a very healthy lifestyle.

Has anyone ever had hypnotherapy? Does it work?

Yeap, still at square one!

I'm dubious to the fact it would work with me. Now I'm open minded, so will try most things, but I'm hard to convince, so worried it would be a waste of time.

Guess its one thing that you wont know till you try, why not try one more push to get to the gym and eat properly, finding someone to go to the gym with can be good motivationally.

Yes, that's all good and well, but when you live in Glastonbury and don't know anyone, finding someone to go with is actually harder than hauling my ass down there in the first place!

Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, not around my eyes, into my eyes, not around my eyes. Well did it work. LOL.

you missed the bit where you say "you have seen my car for sale and want it at the full origional asking price" bud ;)

how about going to the gym with a friend? i used to go on my own but found it was no fun at all and soon got bored but yeah go with a friend much better

I started going to the gym with a friend from work now have loads of friends there, if you can crack the motivation to get to the gym regularly then you usually find that the healthy life style and eating follows automatically.

Strange you should say that as I did watch that sketch on Little Britain last night!

HI, honestly dude the hardest part is making the first move, its like any thing else wether its gym, going out (etc) i used to feel same way,4yrs ago started gym with a friend who lasted a week ever since then ive never relied on anyone wether its gym or any thing else do what you wont dont let things hold you back, plus good thing about exercise is if your stressed/work (etc) its a great way of relaxing,i now some peeps will feel better if there with some one going to a gym if both are motivated other wise there no point, reason i say that is when i go to gym i wonna train not spend time walking around moaning like my friends, point is taking some that doesnt wonna be there will affect your goals which you have set.and you will meet plenty like minded peeps ounce there.

Maybe you should look at it from a different angle Si. Excuse me taking the thread in a different direction but I personally think its much better than going to a gym. I'm probably one of the fittest people about due to my job and hobbies. I don't drink (much!), I don't smoke, I'm in good shape inside and out and guess what? I NEVER go to the gym.

The gym bores me silly and I don't (IMO) think its even that healthy, you are stuck in a room, often in a city, doing repetitive motions with very little phsycological (sp?) involvement which I think is the most important part of getting motivated and fit.

Get yourself a hobby outside, you are in a perfect part of the country. Anything, even (and especially) walking does wonders for your fitness and general well being. Theres running, climbing, mountain biking, para gliding for f*ck sake! They are all 100% better for you than wasting time in a gym looking at your muscles in the mirror. Plus they get you fit and strong as a result. Fresh air is better than anything else for getting fit and feeling good.

There are so many blokes in the Marines who spend time getting massive in the gym and thinking they are awesome because they have an extra inch on their biceps. I take them surfing, climbing or swimming and it counts for absolutely nothing. They are in pieces and blowing out their hoop in no time, no better than someone who has sat on their sofa watching TV all day. There's no substitute for emotional involvement for motivation. You are not going to give in and finish early if you are in the middle of no where! you've got to get home; whether by foot, by bike or whatever.

Dave

I agree with (royal)

What? that I'm a fit bloke. Mwahahahaha! :nelson: :mac1: where that limp wrist smilie?
