Hi guys and girls im currently thinking of buying a nissan 300zx twin turbo. What are the main things i should look out for/avoid on these cars?would an imported model be as good as a uk model? Also i dont really fancy an auto model but im finding it really hard to source a manual version. What sort of maintenance costs go with this car and are there any common problems that you know of?

Any help with the above will be greatly appreciated

hello and welcome - if you can buy a zed from the club you will normally find its better looked after and has a history with it. Apart form that, the j spec's dont seem to suffer from rust as much but are more expensive to insure.

If you really want a manual you can always convert - the garages on here will be able to give you a price.

good luck with the hunt - i know you'll get a silly grin when you buy one.

regards,

alex

Maintainance costs (subjective to the way you drive I suppose):

Tyres:- at least £100 a tyre, more like £150 if you've got any sense and buy some good ones.

Fuel:- Mine does 4-5 miles per pound spent (mainly motorway), this goes down rapidly if driving around town

Brake pads:- £60-£120ish

Don't be put off by rebuilt/modded engines, as its probably better than a stock one thats 13yrs old (in my opinion).

Watch for all the usual turbocharged car problems, smoke on opening up the throttle, etc.

Wiring looms get cooked (thus good to have rebuilt one again).

Imported are usually in better nick as they don't have salt on the roads, Uk are more likely to be rusty.

Most people think its worth holding out for a manual (I personally think they are much, much better). You can convert them though (about the same price as reconditioning a broken auto gearbox), you have to find a donar car though which can be difficult.

Spend a little more to get a good one as cheap ones are cheap for a reason, especially on ebay (don't go there!). Try to buy off here so you can look at the history and its more likely the car has been loved and looked after.

Above all remember that once you find a good one it'll be more than worth it. The cars are AWESOME!!

thanks for all the info guys ill let you know how i get along
