Opened my post today and first one a letter from my insurance with a cheque for £80 refund as i changed my car.....fantastic i thought then i opened the other letter!!

Official looking one from the inland revenue!!!

I used to do my own tax returns, not out of wanting to but i was told i must so did them online for the last 3 or 4 years never had a problem and usually got a nice refund!!!! but last year i did it got a nice refund but 2 months later they sent me a letter saying i had £380 too much!? fair enough paid them

Got a letter this morning saying they had gone through it again and i now owe them £1700   WTF but try speaking to them, dont want to know got to put it in writing and appeal against it

I think they do this because they know no one knows about tax's etc i certainly dont understand anything about them

Tw@ts i blame gordon brown, will give him a slap if i have to pay £1700 back :smw:

Know how you feel mate - I have to do my own Tax Return. One year I got £600-00 back, then the next year I owed them £900-00  :headvswal

My fianancial situation hadn't changed that much - just a 3% salary rise and everything else the same

What's it all about

Each year in October I get a letter saying I'm not paying enough tax and that they're putting my tax code down. Three days later they write to me telling me I paid too much tax last year and I'm due a refund and they include a cheque for £550. That's three years running now. WTF are these people doing ?

Basically I blame the fact that the Inland Revenue employ complete baboons ;)

Many of the old efficient staff have retired. Have you rang the Inland Revenue lately? Most barely have grasped the English language or left school and these idiots are calculating your tax

OK all calculations are done by computer but there is still some data processing chap/chapess entering the info......

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yeah well check this out then, I gave up contracting under my own Ltd. company a few years back coz it was more hassle than it's worth and decided to go under a reputable Umbrella company instead. Point being that instead of paying a sh1te accountant 50 squids a month to do absolutely f\/ck all and drop you in the sh1t on an annual basis...you rely on the Umbrella company to deduct what is owed e.g. PAYE/Employers NI/Employees NI etc. etc. and then what ever is left you know is yours!

Well I got a letter through from the Inland Rev. a few days back to say that while I was working for Hays I.T. 2003-2004 I didn't pay any tax so I now owe 7884 squids in tax. So they will be adjusting my allowance starting April 2006 to compensate. WTF is going on??

Had a piloshite the other day with the CSA ( extra tax inc ), Dont get me wrong I want to help my kids but some :xxx: just seems to make an assessment based on zero info.

Get landed with a fookin gr8 bill and its been back dated 2 years....wft is happening to ol' blighty.

This country is run by a load of :xxx: :xxx: they would be nowhere with out us!!!

Nuff sed

OMG! Doh! I was considering doing a similar thing but glad I've got a normal job now!

i pay 350 once a year, to my account who often gets me rebates of 1400 a year , ia selfemployed though ,but still nice little bonus

Ignorant coonts! The IR chased me for over £15,000 for 10 months last year for "underpaid tax". Got to the point of a summons being issued before they backed off and cancelled the whole demand. Not a single apology either  They will always try it on as 95% of people pay up without question...
