A supercar you can use everyday?

Hi,

Is the 300 ZX TT a car that you can use everyday, my intention is to get a 300zx TT but it would have to be my daily workhorse, does anybody else use theirs daily? or am I setting myself up for a bit of trouble?

Everybody seems to have had the same problems with the Z's, the heater matrix and the PTU are these related to imports or uk spec as well?

Matt,

Be careful to keep things in perspective. The two problems you mentioned are not exactly uncommon but I think you'd actually find (particularly with the heater matrix) that the majority of people haven't had the problems.

You just don't get posts saying "my car didn't break down today". I'm no longer a Z owner but I still reckon it's the most reliable car I've ever had. It never broke down in 30,000 miles despite upgrading to around 430 bhp and using it is daily driver, including snow, rain, etc.

If looked after then the likelihood of them going wrong is similar to any other Japanese car. The key difference is the cost when they DO go wrong. But even that is very reasonable when compared to other cars of similar performance - some of my TVR receipts make me long for the return of "cheap Z costs".

(P.S. Clarkey, don't take it personally - just having you on!)

Dave,

I'm well aware of the cost of repairs on supercars, I was mearly curious as to the reliability of the Z, as i've never owned one and hope to do so soon, I just didn't want to purchase a motor that will require continous nursing, my GTO run faultless for over a year and the only problem I had was with the transfer box, cost £1300 to replace. I not worried about the regular serviceing as I have a very good local garage that I trust, just more worried about a car I know little about.

Hi Dave,

I use mine as daily driver, have been for about 10 months. Not one problem, but do keep it serviced. I always use fully synthetic, and I am currently using Millers 10/60. The car has been modified, and still gives about 20mpg average.

Mine is modded and returns a spectacular 12mpg of Optimax around town.

I do drive like a lunatic though. biggrin.gif

I Agree, >20mpg= boring drive to work.

Use mine daily weather permitting as I don't wan't to loose it in the icy or snow conditions, but apart from the odd minor problem dare I say it .... its running fine.

another double message!

mine is my everyday car - actually sold my other motor after owning the zed for a month as I missed being in it, plus I adore the power and obviously the looks...

Yeah, its my daily driver, at the moment Im doing the killer. Loads of little runs with one average one a week.

Unfortunaltly I only average about 17-19 MPG. But I think she is running rich.

I cant drive "normal" cars. I drive my dads Sierra 2.0EFI which I thought was fast and Im pulling off with my foot down cos it feels soo slow.
