A supercar you can use everyday?

Hi,

Is the 300 ZX TT a car that you can use everyday, my intention is to get a 300zx TT but it would have to be my daily workhorse, does anybody else use theirs daily? or am I setting myself up for a bit of trouble?

Matt

I used mine daily.. until it blew up.. but I have two cars, so I do have a fallback..

I know Stuart (SRRAE) uses his as a daily driver, all year round, and his is a UK car with ~170K on the clock..

Your not really filling me with confidence here, I used to have a twin blown GTO which was quite happy with the use as long it was serviced regular.

I use mine as a daiy driver, no probs.

Matty.

Until I got my company car, my Zed was my daily driver for just over 2 years. She's done 40,000 on a new engine now, although the clock reads 128,365.

With a bit of care and attention Zeds are quite happy at being daily drivers, although fuel consumption is stupid if you do lots of short distances. Just remember to allow the turbos to heat up before moving anyway (ideally oil temp should be at the 60 mark) and run the last 2/3 miles at little or no boost or sit for a few minutes when you reach your destination to allow them to cool down again.

I use mine as a daily diver, no probs.

Matty.

I use my (tuned) TT as a daily driver 6 months a year (mainly during the spring/summer).

No problems here, but expect high fuel costs.

If you treat the car well, it will treat you good wink.gif

Oh and regular servicing, (either by a qualified Zed Tech or yourself if you feel up to the tasks - the 60k service is a bit of a bugbear but can be done,) is worth its weight in gold.

OK OK I should have qualified my post smile.gif

Mine expired due to something as stupid as a burst water hose - and it didn't expire, just needed the hose changing (I just decided to do a bit of a rebuild at the same time)..

As everyone else says, service, service and service

Oh and MPG - I got about 17 around town, and 28 on the motorway.. (I have a heavy right foot)

Thanks guys, the GTO needed an oil change every 4500 miles, and a full service every 9000 miles, is the 300ZX the same?

Queue Oil Debate...

Depends on what Oil you use and the distances that you travel etc etc..

Usually every 6000 is OK. Usually...

i use mine every day and i use it for doing couriers up and down the country and for the cruises and please god touch wood apart from the heater matrix going on it as is still well with the car bear in mind though its still restricted so hasnt been thrashed like some have

I do adbout 1200 mile a month, I'd had problems with fully synthetic oil with the GTO but a switch to Semi seemed to cure any annoying tapping, not too concerned about the MPG as I found it seriously depends on the weight of my right foot, still its worth the smile on your face for a bit of go go juice.

I use mine as a daily driver. Wish I didn't have to but thats how it is at the moment. Have done so for year and a half and no problems.

As already mentioned be very gentle on warm up and down, thats my whole journey then when going to and from work as its only 3 miles away.

Hardest thing is getting in and out of the bloody thing biggrin.gif

I've used mine as a daily driver for about 6 months of the last year (I can't cope with working any more than 6 months per year) with 3 hours driving per day to/from work. Had PTU, auto gearbox (usual Jap-import autobox problems - should be ok now with gearbox oil cooler) and heater matrix problem, same as most people. Its pretty good as a daily driver, reasonably practical too, even moved house with it last week, although my new monitor wouldn't fit in it anywhere except out of its box. I take it VERY slowly for the first 5 miles and the last 5.

Its been a lot more reliable than my mates GTO (at least my wheels haven't fallen off yet LOL)

Hi Matt,

You won't know much about the previous history where my car is concerend so I won't go into it! LOL biggrin.gif

But here is my official statement:

"Mrs. Turbo has recently sold her Range Rover and is without car! I therefore have decided to gift her my faithful Captain Kirk(Merc) as her daily dustbin driver! Which is what it will become in less than a week of her getting her tiny mits on it. I therefore will now be mostly using my Z as my weekly driver which will mean an average of about 6-700 miles a week!"

I don't know if I should be doing this! Tempting far too much fate I reckon! biggrin.gif

Yes my friend, I have decided that it should spend some quality time on Blighteys finest motorways! Striking fear into BMW drivers everywhere. So be warned bimmer driver...if you see a pair of pisshole in the snow Christmas cracker torch lights in your rear view...get out the way or you will be mullered!!! Haaa haaa haaaaaaaaa! biggrin.gif

Did manage to take out an S-type Jag just before the gearbox went though! By the way, SE chip defo removes the top end limiter...trust me. wink.gif

ours was used as the daily driver for a couple of months till yesterday when we pulled up and it pissed fuel everywhere so we dont use it any more its tucked up the corner on the drive. To be honest its not the winter car, you cant boot it anywhere even on roads that look dry the arse end is all over the place. And even if you drive it slow it guzzles fuel, still it looks the bollocks so who cares if you have the money. (btw we have 5 other cars in case any break down wink.gif)

Clarkey, you really need some new tyres on that thing. The car should not be all over the place if it looks dryish.

I've commuted in mine most days for the last 3 years or so. The PTU failed one morning in heavy traffic but other than that it has never let me down. Things have needed fixing but nothing that has left me stranded.

Been using mine as a daily driver for 2 years (used to commute with it but not anymore). Been absolutely fine apart from the PTU going (is there anyone who hasn't had this go?). Touch wood, it will continue to be this good!

Andy

our PTU aint gone *touch wood*, but it pisses fuel out and theres a balancing problem somewhere that causes an unnoticable vibration but as a result a very loud noise in the cabin at over 90mph

Don't you just hate those unnoticeable problems wink.gif

(sorry Clarkey - couldn't resist!)

lol

the origin of the noise is obviously a vibration cos its a kind of vibration noise (kinda a shuddering noise very difficult to explain tbh). The vibration causing it you cant feel at all, but you can hear the noise very noticably wink.gif

Hi MattUSM.

My Z is a daily driver, 30 miles per day @ 20mpg.

No problems so far....

Regards
